Yes, 08 swingarm will hit the subframe (I had another 08 on a 96 ZX7R). Time to get out that aluminum welder and lighten that subframe up while you make it clear the swingarm!

Well that sucks. I guess I'll have to get everything fitted up and see what's going on.

What did you end up doing? Any pics?

Nothing wrong with a little project. Even if it's a big project.

Like only Joe can do.

Looking forward to how this turns out. So far, so good. :clap

A few dimensions of the zx10 swingarm would be interesting.

1. Width of the arm at the pivot.
2. Inner width of the arm at the wheel
3. length of the arm from front pivot (on center) to the edge of the opening at the rear where the bolt goes through the wheel, sprocket and arm. Or in other words, difference in length compared to the zx7r arm.
4. Weight of the arm.
1 and 2.

I have some yard work to do tomorrow and then I hope to be tearing the front triple apart for the swap.

How hard are those bearing races to press off? Thinking I may need to take them to work with me to use the hydraulic press but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Shoe-horned a bit of garage time into today's schedule. Here's what I got done in > 1hr:

Here are the the two triples side by side: The zx10r and the zx7r

I really don't feel like dragging this shit with me to work so I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up a 20 ton shop press tomorrow... I could borrow tools but why if I'll probably need them later anyway

Sure as hell haven't gotten a lot of feed back as far as process on this whole deal, so I guess I'm on my own. I'll make it happen like I usually do.

On the plus side, I have a god weld/fab guy on stand-by in case I need some work done. I don't own a TIG welder (wish I did). Next best thing is knowing a guy who used to own his own fab shop and now happens to work in the same company as you and on the same shift. ;-)

If you use the zx7 tapered roller bearing and races in your swap, its damn near a direct swap. The zx6 (636), you'll need a .335" spacer with a step on it for for preload, and another .100" shim on top directly below the upper clamp.

The two bikes ive done these swaps on, the 10 triple tree is a basically a straight swap if the tapered bearings are used.

Just my two cents.. :)

Sweet. That's what I was planning on doing. Thanks for chiming in. I'm all about any tips or tricks to save steps/headache/aggravation.

Joe .... thanks for the specs on the 10 arm!

You may have come across this info already on the front end swap. If not, this info will help. This guy is extremely knowledgeable and will quickly answer any questions you may have.

You're very welcome.

Thanks a ton for the link. I hadn't seen that one. It is now bookmarked.

I did as much research as I could before buying parts. Prior to starting the biggest question marks were doing up the front triple correctly so that things mount up right, and figuring out what kind of (if any) spacers I'll need for the 10r swing arm pivot.

Now apparently I may have a swing arm clearance issue according to what I've read. Got my TIG welder on stand-by. It's going in come hell or high water.:evil

I'm pretty interested in as much write up on how you do the front end as possible. It's definitely my next mod, but I haven't decided quite how I'm gonna do it.

I'll do the best I can and take as many pics as I can. Just picked up a 20 ton press to remove the tapered roller bearing races properly. Should be able to move forward once that assembled and so on.

Hit me up if you need any additional specs or measurements (or more precise measurements). I'm planning on measuring, weighing, and documenting everything that I can for the record and the future use of others.

Just received my Gear Wrench tap and die kit (74 pc set) and my Driven chain tool kit in the mail.

Still need to assemble my shop press before things can move forward. Hoping to get some garage time in very soon. My damn grass won't stop growing though. And my job seems to want me to be there on a regular basis, something about 40 hours, I tried to negotiate but they won't budge.
