If somebody really wants to take the bike, they are going to take it regardless of what lock you have. I know of situations where 2 guys show up, lift the bike into the back of a van and off they go.

Have you looked at the ones with the built in alarm? Noise always gets people's attention and more of a deterrent then a lock alone.

 

Yup, I agree, that's why I said the lock will only keep honest people honest. I have not seem the disc lock with the built in alarm. I'll take a look at that version, Thanks!

I found the best theft/vandalism deterrent is to put a bike tarp on and over top of that an ugly blue camping tarp. It gives the appearance that there's an old crappy bike under the blue camping tarp that's not worth anyone's time. Since doing this I've never had any problems again.

 

I use mine on the front brake. They will try and snap the steering stem lock or just pick it up. @ 600 pounds if they want my 20 year old bike that bad, and they are willing to carry it out or try and maneuver the front end out of my fenced yard...

so be it.

The round key lock was vey easy to unlock with a cheap round pen.
For that reason, Kryptonite made a recall many years ago, to replace round lock units with new ones with a different key. They were paying shipping both ways.
I had my two units replaced under this recall campaign.
