So the 05-06 bikes only have a catalytic converter if they are californian?

(I got this out of the 05 service manual)
2. Exhaust Emission Control System
This system reduces the amount of pollutants discharged into the atmosphere by the exhaust of this motorcycle. The fuel, ignition, and exhaust systems of this motorcycle have been carefully designed and constructed to ensure an efficient engine with low exhaust pollutant levels. The exhaust system of this model motorcycle manufactured primarily for sale in California includes a catalytic converter system.
never seen a cat on an 05-06. I used to have an 05 636 CA model. If they did, they would've said something about a pre muffler/chamber in the description from kawi. you can see that it doesn't have one just by looking at it. there would be some sort of bulge. plus the retail on the 05-06 header is $878 and the 07-08 is $1243. the price difference is not because of the year difference, but the fact that the 07-08 have precious metals like palladium, rhodium, and platinum in the cat.then again, I have been proven wrong every once in a while. anybody want to take their mid pipe off and stick a hanger in the header?

You didn't look first for a catalytic converter before wondering about it...? :headscratch
:rotflmao i guess not! i dont have the obvious one on the bottom with the belly pan cut out around it so i just assumed it was there i guess. :rolleyes

If you have 03-04 zx6r and it doesn't have a catalytic but you install a yoshi slip on, do you need to instal pcIII? I dont think so. I think you install pcIII when you have the exhaust system and not the slip on with stock headers. I might be wrong.

you don't need it, but you should get one. every bike should have a PCIII whether it's stock or not.

:rotflmao not directly, but I do work at a shop:crazyloco

that depends on who you take it to. In order to void the warranty an aftermarket part has to have a direct affect on the parts that failed. Always a good idea to get to know the service department. It's all in their hands...

I doubt that a PCIII has an affect on the warranty. At least the shop that I work at doesn't care.

I just had my belly pan off a couple days ago for installing a new clutch and oil change. And I did notice there is a small bulge area in the pipe.
I'll be taking the tail apart fairly soon, so I'll try and remember to check for sure about the cat then.

definitely let us know what you find

ok so what i gather from this gaggle fuck of pciii and slip-on nonsece was get a PCIII eventually if you get a slip-on . and full race you definetly need it. and my bike (( 05 zx6r {{636}} )) dont have a cat. so i dont need to look for one or get a test pipe put in... awkward convos. i plan on gtting the pciii but im gettign a slip on sometime in may. heres my other question. do i need to get the pciii if i change the spark plugs and does any of this matter that i have a 520 conversion on my 636?... i have no clue on the mechanical aspect.. i just drag my knees.. im learning the tech part still work with me

lol sounds like me. you done need a pciii if your changing your spark plugs. and it dont matter abt your 520 conversion. get a pciii wen u get a slip on and your gucci

05's and up do have cats. I'll take pics of mine tommarow as i just pulled the header off to punch out the cat. It is located at the bulge right after the collector. There are 2 ways of doing it... one is to use a cut off wheel and cut a square out above the cat itself and take it out that way and have it re-welded..2nd way is what im going to do is just punch out the cat with a good ol pry bar and a hammer and just brake up the cat itself and remove it in chunks so i wont have to cut the top and have it welded up. What is weird to is after the cat is a divider which deffently seems to be another bottle neck besides the cat in the oem headers.Ive had a couple friends do this and without the cat the bike does run cooler for sure. As of now i only have a K&N and a akrapovic slipon. I pulled my plugs and they are very dark... darker than i would like them to be so i know it is running rich. I have no pc3 but that will be on the way soon enough so i can get a nice tune on her with my current mods. My goal is to get the stock header to perform just as good as a aftermarket one, which i cant afford right now lol. Ill have some high-res pics up tommarow of all the work i do on her.
