This is a really good question. I would have thought that the zx7 starter would have been a direct swap; especially the 91-95 (although the 96+ zx7r p model starter shares the same part number as the L model); since the zx9r B model (94-97) is basically a stroked zx7 motor. I'm really interested to know what the differences are between the two.

It's for a ZX9R, so it's different. It turns counterclockwise instead of clockwise that the ZX7 does due to the super inductor drive.

Check the starter relay first. It happened to me with the ZX900C2. I replaced the starter motor but it turned out to be the starter relay that died.

Yeah I have replaced my motor and relay but I think my fuel relay has gone as its clicking at the fuel pump
