hey peeps. i have a 05 zx6r and have had it for about 4 months now. i have had no problems with it at all until now. the battery died so i bought a brand new one, thought yeah that would be fine but as i was riding out after about 5 mins the engine cut out. but as the engine cut out the alarm/immobiliser didnt work. i left it about an hour as it wouldnt re start and it all started fine again. so a bit later i took it out again and exactly the same happened :/. i dnt think its the engine as it runs perfect when its running, but then cuts out as if i hit the kill switch?

well you changed the battery so I'd start by checking the battery connections

we need detials.

Miles, operating temp, mods to bike.

636's run HOT, 05 ECU's are notorious for dying from the heat produced. This issue was fixed in the 06 model.

My first suggestion would be to check your breather line for your gas tank. If that line is kinked anywhere and it cont breathe properly it will cut the engine so that no damage is caused.

If that doesn't work take the fuel pump out and take it to a dealer. Any dealer should be able to test the fuel pump for you or you can look online for ways to check the pump yourself.

If the breather line and the fuel pump are both ok I hate to tell you but more than likely it is your ECU. As sh4dowjudgment mentioned earlier 05s are notorious for the ECU shorting out. Denso who manufactured the ECU that year thought the ECU could handle the heat from the undertail exhaust but that wasn't the case. What ends up happening is the heat from your exhaust shorts out the ecu. I would not recommend buying a new ECU from eBay there was a period of time were some people were selling their old shorted out ECU and if that happens the problem will never be fixed.

This is all just my experience. I can't guarantee that this is the same issue but I think that would be a good place to start.

Its safe to get the ECU from ebay, just look at the seller rating. Dont buy from anyone with only 2 or 3 sales. I got my 06 one for a couple hundred.
