Hello all, first post here. I have a 2018 ZX14. Some idiot hit the bike at Walmart, I walk out and there she is laying on her side. I pick up the bike, put in the key and she starts right up. The bike throws an 31 error code, which is the Tip Over sensor. It is my understanding if the switch is malfunctioning the bike wont start, this is not the case with the bike, she starts up right away. I tried clearing the code with the 30 second idle, 5 minute above 25 mph and total 10 min engine on 3 times technique, but the check engine light wont clear. Am I doing something wrong with the way I'm trying to clear the code? or there is something wrong with the switch? I called the dealer and guy on the phone informed me he never heard of that situation, he just told me to come in and pay 50 bucks to clear the code. What do you guys think? Anybody here ever experience a similar situation that can offer some advice? Thanks....

I would check that the tip-over switch is vertical when the bike is standing upright and solid. It could have broken the mount and made it intermittent. It should be on the right side of the tail section.

You did make sure you ran 10 minutes total and at least 5 minutes above 25 MPH (never dipping below 25 during the 5 minutes) each time before turning off the key? If you ever dip below 25 MPH or don't wait 10 minutes each time it doesn't work. The first 30 seconds before starting each session matters also.

$50 is really not a bad price. They have buildings to pay for, payroll, taxes, blah, blah, blah.

What is odd, that your pretty new bike was involved in a hit and run. I am sure you have close to $1,000.00 in damage (scratches) and you are not going through your insurance. They would take of the code. That is the way I would do it. I dropped my previous 14 in a parking lot, while stopping, due to oil on the ground and loss of footing. I stood it up and the code cleared it self. Never had an issue.
