I have a 2006 zx10. The issue started about a month ago. I rode the bike after it had been in winter storage since august (8 months not running). Then i take the bike out after getting a new battery and starter. The bike was running fine, but it would sputter a little bit, and cut off. I heard that it was probably due to water being in the tank over winter storage. I then i drained all old gas, but decided to go to the next level, and got a completly different tank off of a low miles bike. So i have a fresh fuel filter/pump, and fresh gas.
I was riding the bike and it seems like after about 25 minutes, it will sputter once really quickly and then seconds later it will just shut off. I will pull over and start the bike up again, and it starts up and rides just fine. Then it will die a few minutes later. If this start up/ride/ engine dies, cycle goes on for about 3 times. It is hard to start the engine up again. If the bike sits for about 5-10 minutes, it seems to have a longer run before it dies again. its almost as if when it cools down, its able to ride longer. I might be paranoid but it feels like the left side of the bike gets hot a few minutes before it happens. Oh yes, and all the gauges stay on. Its like i just hit the engine kill switch. Here is what i have done so far.
*Changed computer, and tilt sensor.
I have tested the bike to see if it would do it again. The bike sat running in neutral with the kickstand down, and in about 3o minutes, it stopped again. It will fire right up right after it stops, and the engine sounds fine. I bumped the idle up to about 1400 and the same thing happens.
* after i received the bike back, the bike only starts in neutral. It used to start up in any gear, with the clutch in, but now its only able to start in Neutral only. I have never been stumped like this before.
