OK, not only do we need to know if it is the sprocket cover (bolts to the engine case with several screws) or the chain guard (bolts to the swingarm with about 3 screws), it would be considerably helpful to know year and model. I seem to remember Gav finding out that they changed slightly over the years.

for sure not on the swing arm. it goes around the chain and sprocket right by the motor. and it is definitely plastic. after looking at one of the pieces that broke off, there is no way its metal. if pics need to be posted, i can do that tomorrow.

What everyone here is considering the sprocket cover or chain guard is metal, but there is a plastic sound dampener affixed to the inside. They are in the lower left of this picture. Notice the '95 is different.

Hi one bad ZX,
Is this the same as what you're seeing. My sprocket came off & destroyed the sprocket cover and it's made of metal- Not plastic ('92 model).

ya thats it. wow, it must be cheap metal because mine broke a little too easily, and with the pieces that broke off, it just seemed like it was plastic. it didnt feel heavy enough to be metal.
