I like sidi boots. I have the air model pair. They are totally worth it. They have compression technology on the heels and side. That way if you crash and you are tumbling you don't cause more damage to say like your heel or toes. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. I have some thor boots also that i really like. I also have puma brand boots that are super light that i wear for street riding. But i use the sidi boots on the track mostly.

A* SMX 5's are z pretty common "entry level" boot that are pretty inexpensive. They offer decent protection and vent good air if you get the vented kind.

You would be better off buying a set of steel toes than putting 60 dollar riding boots on your feet. I barely feel comfortable wearing a 130 dollar set of composite toe work boots and these have ankle support.
If you know what size to get, and dont mind wearing a pair of boots that have had someone elses stank feet in, then you can find some good deals on ebay... but you will have to (should probably) spend more than 100 bucks.

For example. Brand I have never heard of, but they are probably better than some used 60 dollar things.
Well i can get some alpine star ridge water proof boots for about 55 new. I guess im looking for a good boot that would also be comfortable to walk around in too. I am looking at mesh/leather pants currently too. Most of my riding is done as commuting but a couple times a month will be spent traveling 100+ miles. In a few weeks i am going on a road trip to South Carolina and back.
the ridge boots seem good for commuting. For more aggressive riding and longer trips would a tall/more protective boot be wise? Or are the "racing" type boots not good for long trips?
