For a couple of years now, I've been trying to photograph my bike next to a plane, a vintage airplane, to be exact. For some strange reason, every time an airplane event is announced, it usually happens during the cold season. And like those who read my humble blog know, I don't like to ride my bike when is cold. Why, you might ask. The answer is simple, I hate cold weather with a passion.

Several weeks ago I noticed an ad for an event called Wheels & Wings at Van Sant Historic Airport in Pennsylvania. I googled the airport address and learned it is only one hour away from me, so I decided to give it a go.

Yesterday, it rained early in the morning. No surprise there, it's been raining in Philadelphia all week. Temperatures were hovering around 45 degrees Fahrenheit, so I figure it would warm up if the sun fight it's way through the clouds.

Halfway through the ride I realized I made a mistake. I was not dressed properly, not enough layers for warmth on a bike in the cold. In my mind I was still trying to convince myself that it would get warmer since it was only around 1:00 pm. It didn't, it got colder as the day progressed.

Shortly after arriving at the airfield I noticed the planes were placed in the grass field, in a cordoned off section. I was informed that the only shot of a plane photograph next to my bike could have been arranged, if I was out there early in the morning before the show started.

Oh well. There's always next year. Enjoy the pictures, while I browse online for winter motorcycle gear.

I was at Van Zant for Wings and Wheels Saturday also but got there a little late so I didn't get a chance to see all of the displays. I was parked right next to your black ZX14, I was on my BMW R12GS. I had a good time but didn't stay long, I arrived after 3 and left around 4. Hopefully next year the weather will cooperate and I can get there early and enjoy the show.

I think the early morning rain kept the crowds away, in my opinion the weather lead to poor attendance. I was supposed to meet a group of biker friends from Lansdale and ride to the the airfield, but they cancelled at the last minute. Next time stop by and say hello!

Winter gear?:laugh3:
In 1985 I lived in Phoenix, AZ for about a year, I do miss riding my bike all-year 'round.

I agree...a bunch of guys were supposed to ride up with me but the group ride was cancelled Saturday morning due to the rain. I decided to ride anyway once it stopped raining and the roads dried out.

Quite a juxtaposition: a 190-mph motorcycle in front of a 95-mph biplane.
