Well guys! Tragedy struck today after my ride home! I got home and noticed that my bike was sounding real funny! So I immediately checked the fluids! I noticed that oil was gone! I bought some to fill it up and see where it was going! After I put the bike on the kickstand the oil started shooting out of a hole! Looks like I managed to make a hole in the block! I believe this was due to the horrible POS chain that I had on the bike! It was constantly skipping and was incredibly loose! It looks like it was hacking away at the block! So I guess now I am going to have to buy a new crankcase! Unless I can just replace that part on the block which I doubt. Well anyways heres some pictures!

Just a quick question! Can that particular window part be replaced? I'm looking for new crank cases to purchase and I cannot see the actual window on any of the pictures that i'm seeing!

Hey Zx -Ninja,
I'm pretty sure you haven't trashed the crankcase.
It looks like you've broken the
engine cover under the chain cover.
It is replaceable and can be a PITA to do.
Here's some links to my posts about replacing said cover. If you need any help, feel free to ask.

PS here's a link to the cover, I just found on FEEBAY .

A food lesson for the rest of us: Chains and sprockets should be replaced long before they start skippin' and jumpin' teeth. AS you can see by the pics above, it's false economy not to.

Not to mention dangerous, too.

You could just have some leaky ass seals as well, but you won't know until you take the cover off.

If your chain hasn't come off, it's a pretty good bet that it's the seals and nothing major.

Although replacing those seals can be pain.

A very big lesson that I wont repeat!!

Yes, this window alone can be bought and replaced. I already made it on my engine.
I'm so glad to hear that!!!

My question is this:

If the chain was skipping and loose, why didn't the OP tighten it?

Or perhaps he did and it was just that worn?

Either way, lesson learned.

That sucks man, but I can never imagine myself letting a chain get to that point. Even if it was getting too loose to tighten or worn I would not ride it!

Just the opinion of someone who likes their bike and their life

Well guys I got everything off that is in the way of the cover! The only thing is that the two bottom bolts will not come out because their is not enough clearance to pull them out! Also the shifter gear won't allow for the cover come off! If I could some how raise the engine like a couple inches I could get the 2 bolts out! I checked out the 2 links up top but they had to use an angle grinder to get the cover off!! Does anyone have any other method to get the cover off??

Hey ZX,
My cover was JUNKED that's why I decided to cut it with an angle grinder and that only made it easy to get
the cover off. I still had to jack up the engine to re-install the cover.
I jacked up my engine a couple of inches after removing the lower frame rail, radiator etc.
You've gotta PULL the "shift pawl" back off the shift drum.
(Part No 13165,SEE link )" http://www.kawparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=401201&category=Motorcycles&make=KAWASAKI&year=1992&fveh=9183
You can use a piece of wire to do this.
Ironically, once you get it off, you see how it works and it's pretty simple.
