Hi guys, later today I should be doing quite a few posts on what I'm doin to my SX.

Ordered up the subframe from a Ninja 1000 ABS 2013-2016, as to use the KQR 28 liter hard bags... Gonna see if theres any way to mount up the 47 liter top case in addition to the 28 liter hard bags... Will post up link to where I find info as well as quote it here for how to use kqr top case and panniers together.... Will post up hella pictures soon... Waiting on FedEx to deliver the subframe...

:needpics:

edit 1:
Have already installed a Sargant heated seat, will post pics of it in a little bit. Was easy enough to install. Spliced into the accessory power line on the clutch side of the bike, under the upper left fairing... Pics to come as soon as I figure out my phone, lol...

edit 2:
Brakes already bled... Oil to be changed on sunday before trip... still need to do valve adjustment (can post pics of valve adjustment + pics of service manual regarding valve inspection/clearance adjustment)..

Nice changes. I am looking into what it will take to use the Versys 1000 LT grab rails. They have a small shelf on the back similar to a Connie. I figure a top box should be easy to adapt. I also plan to put a back rest on for when my daughter wants a ride. Something about holding on to Daddy creeps her out ........

I hated my Sargent seat and just sold it. There is not a decent seat made for these damn things.

Get the Ivan's tune flashed on your ECU and an Akra header before you leave. Well worth it on these bikes. You also may want to swap up to a 16 front sprocket and a 55 rear tire. You will be constantly looking for seventh gear otherwise like I used to. The other way if you want to keep the 50 rear tire is to go 16/39 for your sprockets.

I personally wouldn't even bother trying to adapt the LT grab rails... Check out Ventura Racks, call em up and place an order for their "109" model, they don't even have it listed on their website but, it would allow you to mount a top case without interfering with the stock grab rails on your SX. I forget how it all mounts up, but iirc, it uses the passenger foot peg mount thing.

Already gone to a 180/55-17 tire, still hunting for 7th. Not sure I want to get the tune and akra pipes just yet (not enough funds atm lol), something for next year. I've gotten it all mounted up (the KQR 56 liter panniers for 2013+ z1000sx abs models, on my 2012 SX), gonna take the bike for a spin then post it all up! :D
I really like how it turned out, just wish my dremel-manship was more tidy...

I was down in Seaside yesterday, picking up an FZ-07 (bike flipping is fun business)... In november I'll be taking the SX to Florida, not sure the exact route atm, but we should meet up one of these days, brother!

@UX31E,
Are you safe up there man? You are in the thick of these crazy fires.
Don't mean to do resurrection of the thread, but we got by fine.

We still need to connect some time. How was the trip to Florida?
Due to time constraints (work wouldn't approve long enough vacation time), ended up flying out there. Looking back on it, was for the wrong reasons anyways! Haha.

The bike is pretty much in the same state as it was in the previous posts, going to be doing a valve adjustment here soon. Very much overdue, but I digress.

Actually took the Z1000SX out to T-Hill in July of '18. Was good! Until the brake-side frame slider bolt damn near rattled out ?

Alright, here's the pictures I promised!
First picture is the original subframe for the '12 SX. Second pic is '13+ SX subframe. Notice the two sunk mounting holes? Those'll come in handy in a bit. First ya gotta break free the four bolts holding the subframe to the bike (third & fourth pics).
The underfairing deal under the subframe will have to be modified with a Dremel cutoff (fifth & sixth pics) OR you can find a 13+ underfairing to replace the original.
Noticed a little bit of a problem with the fender eliminator kit on the bike (Yoshimura, seventh pic)

Also bonus pics of the '07 ZX-10R track bike engine rebuild

Almost forgot, more pics of the SX, and the finished product. Bike was great on a mini touring trip to Tahoe (can't recall when, must've been late '17 or very early '18). Performed flawlessly. Haven't had 1 issue with the bags. Except for maybe they could be bigger, but that's remediable with some Kriega dryspec bags ?‍♂

Took the bike to the Alameda County Sheriff's Dept motorcycle training course (SX in the lineup of Z1000 police bikes, seems fitting) one of the bikes at the course burst into flame!! That was hilarious, no students or instructors were harmed. The bike suffered minor burns but ultimately survived. Obligatory dog pic.

Track day pics (technically day before, didn't get many pics on the actual day, or of the frame slider bolt nearly rattling out)

KTM 390 was friend's bike (she needed help getting it up there)
