Picking up a new rear for the zx6 going with a 190 cause the wider the better(in most cases). So tomorrow i will burning the rest of my tire up in a stationary position:lol So I was thinking of going with a Dunlop sportmax Q2 but honestly I wanna know what other people are running for performance wise. Whats the best bang for my buck guys?

"Performance wise" I always heard the bike turns in slower with the wider tire. Its more of a "looks" thing to go with the 190. I'd also imagine a bigger tire could slightly affect acceleration in a bad way.

So what kind of performance are you looking for?! If its draggin knee, I'd go with a PP2CT(heard good things) or Diablo Corsa III(run them for over 10K miles) in a 180 size.

You don't want to go to the 190/50 and certainly not the 190/55 they are for the 10R. The 190/50 is actually smaller diameter by .32" but wider yes by .36" but because of the shorter sidewall it balloons on the 6R's wheel and you loose contact patch width. Almost an inch in fact. You will also eat the center of the tire up with 60% of the tread left over 65-70% of the tire. After 3K you will look one day an wonder what the hell happened to my tire. Shot! Before you ask I was nowhere near 42 pounds like the manual. You take away the contact patch it's going to wear more. No rocket science.

You see I'm a dumbass that tried it on mine thought it would look cute. The handling sucked too and that's why the 180/55 is back on it with the same brand of tire. I just eat a tire and it didn't taste worth a shit. Still living and learning at 55.

thats what i figured would happen in the back of my mind. when i bought the bike it came with a 190/50 on the back and i was like well... cant be that bad. but im pretty sure im going to be buying a new set of tires soon. sucks. :banghead

Run the Michelin power pure. I am running them on my 05 ZX-10r and absolutely love them. Don't take long to get warm and are super sticky. They will be going on my 07-6R at the end of the season once my current tires are done. Stick with a 180 on a 6R, with the 190 on my 10r I can get the bike low but not as low as my 6R, obviously before anyone gets on me I know my 10R will never transition as easily as my 6R but when I switched to the Power Pure's I was able to lay the bike out even further than before. I got them from sportbiketrackgear.com it like $285 for the set.

I'm pretty sure that when the 6R was designed as a track bike, they picked the optimal rim and tire size for the job.
Anyone here smarter than the engineers? Anyone?

You guys using 190s on your 6Rs need to fess up and admit that there is no reason to do so and you just think it looks cool to have a wider tire.

Didn't we already have this thread discussion on 180's and 190's... I mean come on 190 have less contact on the road. Just stick to the 180. :rant

Besides the other problems it dicks up the speedo over 2 more mph and so does the top speed looses over 2. It's 24.8" diameter for the 180/55 and the 190/50 is 24.48". It's not far from adding a tooth to the rear sprocket. I'd have to get my book of wisdom for the exact numbers between them for speed and rpms differences and top speed/each gear. Hell yea I got numbers out the ass for these bikes.

pilot powers 2ct is waht i run love them. i think ill run the pilot pures next just to try them.
theyre supposed to be better because of a wider soft compound area than the powers. my 2 cents

They're a straight-up track tire, super soft.

I have Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's and I love em, but I haven't tried any other tire, other than the ones that came with the bike when I bought em. So far I like them, a lot of local riders love em and was recommended by so many people online.
120/70 front
180/55 rear
I believe I went from a 65 to a 70. Which I could feel a difference in the turning because it's a taller wall.

Yeah wider tires look better, but I'd only get them if my bike was either a show bike, drag strip bike or any other than for doing twisties, track, cornering and what not.
Now on a vechile it's a whole different story.

I didn't know that, but at the same time with me it wouldn't matter. We only get a few months of dry weather here. Could be the same for others.

Makes me wonder why Tire PSI I should be running. :/

wow thanks guys i honestly had no idea that there was that much of a diffrence going from a 180 to a 190...guess ill stick with the 180 cause i literally lean the bike over a drag my pegs all the time i want as much traction as i can get:runaway
