I did some maintenance on my 7r which I'm not riding as im still on my provesional Licence but I bought it cuz I love this unique bike and I couldn't wait :potty
changed oil filter, cleaned air filter, cleaned spark plugs, the bike is 1997 but it has only 8000 mile.... after putting every thing back together it rev quickly up but it goes back to the Idle speed slowly.....I know that I have to check the throttle cable resistance ....... any other differential diagnosis plz :crazyloco

Not combing back to idle quickly is 90% a vacuum leak. Normally when you let off the throttle, the springs snap close the butterflys, sucking no Air, no Air flow, no fuel from the meter needle jet, blah blah blah....

Is she doesn't instantly come back down, she is still getting air from somewhere, normally from the carb boots.

Can of starter-fluid with the red straw, at idle, spray below the carb from the seat side. Check each boot, when the idle increases, there is your leak. There are also 3 (or 4 depending if your #2 is capped) vacuumed plugs that are used to sync...

Another question, have you already done the Kleen/Fuel Bowl pressure Mod?

your definitely running lean, whats causing it is the question... you would need multiple carb boots to be loose because just one would cause your bike to run like shit... (been there done that on a few occasions) forgeting to hook up a carb vacuum line is possible but flat out forgetting would mess up your fuel level in the carbs and cause a super lean and misfiring off idle condition (again been there done that) my guess is multiple carb boots loose, a leaking carb vacuum line, you didnt mess with any carb settings did you?

thanx allendoc and airgreesemonkey .....it make since to me and I understood the principle... I will ebay a starter-fluid and see what will happen...

mmm....now... I did not touch the carb at all..nor the boots..... I know is that the carb is most sensitive piece and I wouldn't play it....(and honestly airgreesemonkey I did not mess with it .. not just yet...lol) .... however... I might slightly pulled and pushed the rubber tubes and the vacuum valve which is on the top of the engine while I was trying to undo the spark plugs!!!...

I'm wondering why this has happened :headscratch !!!! and would u guys plz tell me what is the Kleen/Fuel Bowl pressure Mod? it sound like something to do with the carb ..but google did not give me an answer....

You dont need to go on ebay for starter fluid... any auto parts store will have it.

its kind of like a muffler bearing... lmao

joking aside, check all the rubber tubes for cracking, if touching them leaves a black residue on your fingers then replace the tube. if you havent messed with the carbs like you say you didn't then the vacuum tubes is where your issue is most likely

Welcome, hope you find the problem. After my last carb rebuild, my bike has ran amazing, then today I do my daily walk by and smile as she instantly starts and Purrs... But nope, not tonight... She dies.... I am baffled... With Choke, barely idles, I can hear backfiring into the airbox... Once she warms up, she is ok... Lift the tank up... My great idea of cheating and instead of putting bolts in and correctly cap the sync vacuum ports, I ran a tube from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4.... the 1 to 2 was off, so 1 and 2 were sucking air below the carb... But I was so happy to find a problem, put the line (well, actually fish tank air line, hey, it was from the sync...) back on, started right up perfectly with no choke... Amazing what a air leak will do... I will sync before Daytona, and then put Bolts in.

As for the Kleen Mod, I am just going to send you to the Gospel of ****** HERE on the other Board.... It will answer any question you have, hopefully... It explains the why, and shows different ways.... I also rerouted the number 2 plug wire on my bike so that it looks symmetrical looking down with the airbox... That, and the chrome have to add 7.6 hp... Well, at least the Chrome does...
