I'm planning a road trip for late June which will take me to Yellowstone National Park. From there I'd like to go across to the Hells Canyon Rec Area on the Oregon-Idaho border and do the Devil's Tail along the Snake River (Hells Canyon Dam and back - 44 miles of twisting asphalt sweetness)!

Can anyone recommend some nice biking roads from Yellowstone west to the Oxbow, Oregon area? It looks fairly mountainous through there and some of the roads may not even be open at that time of year, so some local knowledge would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Maybe you should head thru to Missoula, Montana and do hwy 12 & LoLo Pass. NINETY-NINE MILES of twisties!!!!

Ive always wanted to do Hells Canyon, so maybe if your ride coincides with my 3 day weekend, I could leave Thursday night and hit the other side of the pass and be in lower Missoula by mid day... Would be the 4th time Ive done Lolo... my best time is 1 hour 45 mins. I was VERY kold, motivated to find warmth, a hot breakfast, and a real hot cup of coffee. By 8:30 when left the lil cafe' in Koosika, Idaho, http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Koosk...,0.889206&hnear=Kooskia,+Idaho&gl=us&t=m&z=11, it was 82!!! :crazyloco:crackup

Look at the map and dream, boys. The Dragon can go suck my SchwantzenKannen!!.....

June 6th or 20th....

Hmmm. 99 miles of twisties eh? Maybe we should blow off Hells Canyon. How's the pavement quality on the LoLo pass?

2 years ago they repaved the lower section just below the pass that meanders along the river ......

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!

Maybe thats why I had such a good time last summer. The previous year there was way to much traffic, but plenty of places to pass. There is a great motel in Missoula just off 90 and right across the street is a Steak House with local craft beers...

Hit LoLo early and wick it up. Just DRESS WARM, its 2000+ feet above sea level in Missoula.

Dare I mention LoLo Hot Springs??

If you can do around the 22cd of June, I have a friend in Calgary who could meet up with you for the ride down...

I rode that back in the early 90's on my ZX7R....what an awesome ride......

Deals Gap is what it is, but holds NO candle to Hwy 12/LoLo pass.

There truly are some magnificent rides in Big Sky Country!
