ok so I have recently just started having a problem with my zx11 when accelerating ill get a couple pops and commentary loss of power and I have no idea why but I suspect its because the carbs are running rich based on the fact that when its running it gives off a strong smell of exhaust but Idk why it would just start after months of riding with a rich mixture.

Typically popping on deceleration means it is lean. Your title and the actual post say two different things though, decel and accel. Clean the carbs and I bet you'll be happy again

It actually does both. When I com of the throttle itl pop a little but the last few days I have noticed that after warming it up (its very cold in reno nv this time of year) il go down the road at steady throttle and all of a sudden get a pop and a loss of power then a pick up then a pop and itl clear up and be fine.

A lean condition can pull un-combusted fuel through to the exhaust pipe, which will ignite on the hot exhaust. I know I'm probably not explaining it right, not to mention, I could be totally wrong. I'm sure someone else will chime in later on and make it more clear

Read and follow factory pro's carb tuning guide. It's a bible for carbs.

Backfiring can be caused by lean or rich mixture but it could be an ignition problem also. Chances are its a carb issue but...

Yeah I checked with all the local shops and I came across one that actually looked at the bike and told me to check the valves first but thinks one or two of the carbs are off.
