Shes my winter project/obsession... I took off all fairing to paint the frame and noticed what looks like a small leak from a gasket. It looks like it dripped down on the exhaust and on the side. It looks like theres a bolt there I might be able to just tighten up but I dont want to just put a band aid on it... I want to fix it before I get her back together. The oil looks pretty clean and is only leaking from that one side. I use full synthetic in it and it has about 28,000 miles on it.

It looks a little worse in person. Its on the left side of the bike...

Should I replace the gasket?

i would definitely change it, all you need is that one day where that leaking oil gets onto a tire and you go down, or worse the seal completely goes and your motor is done for

I've never worked on a bike before but am very comfortable working on cars... This job looks like I can get to it right from the top. It looks like a valve cover gasket, correct?

yea looks like the valve cover gasket. Not that hard to do. bout 30 bucks for the gasket and 4 bucks for kawi bond
