I have a 94 zx7.. When I push the start button I hear it click but the starter dosent engage, the day before I was trying to get her running and she was turning over and the battery was getting weak and half way thru the last time it tried to turn over it quit.. So I trickled charged the battery and it is nice and charged and it does the same shit.. Click and no start.. I have another starter but do not want to change it for nothing.. How do I find out before having to take it out..

on a 94? I have no idea. I know on the P models its on the left hand side of the bike under the seat. Next to the junction box. The junction box in a 96+ clicks and has fuses in it, but thats not the starter relay.

But, it will have at least two rather large wires going to it. Everyone kept telling me to hit the junction box, but in my experience a light tap on the starter really (NOT the J-box) is what is needed.

I have no idea if the 94s have the same issues as the 96+

However, a good solid mash on the junction box does jar the starter relay enough to work sometimes... but thats not what it seems to need.

This same thing has happened to me numerous times on my 93 ZX7. I think it's a flat spot in the starter. When this happens, I put it into 1st and bump the starter. Another problem might be the neutral safety switch. Mine gets stuck pushed in and I get nothing when I hit the starter. Hope this helps!

Idk if this applies but with cars often times when this occurs the starter is burnt out. When you try and turn the motor over, you battery transfers I think its a 3rd of its capacity. So if your starter is dead, you'll often here the servo motors (clicking noise) but after awhile and no start up, your battery will die since it cannot be charged by the alternator.

The neutral light is on.. Every time I push start it clicks, I tried putting it in gear and bumping it and tried hitting the starter too like u would on a car.. Nada.. How do I check the neutral safety switch, I'm thinking if it's that it would click when I pushed start..

Flat battery possibly, try jumping it with a car, check that the charger charged it properly, i left my battery for some time where it was gone and wouldn't charge, the trick with that is to use another battery, then connect the charger to the other battery, run jumper leads from that battery to the dead one then let it charge for 30mins, take the charger off the good battery and connect it to the dead one, this is how you save dead batteries.
Also i found that if you run a ground from the battery to the engine block it fires up first go, even after standing for some time.
I think the zx7 already have the ground wire to the block, just check its connected properly.

Check also nuteral switch and the clutch switch and hand control plugs, it can also cause the clicking.

Pull the clutch in and try it?
