I had a ZZR 12 before I bought a ZX-14. The 12 got totalled by an errant dog. I always said the 12 was at least the equal of the VMax in terms of visceral feel, like being pushed by the hand of God. They are a bit heavy for sporty riding, but they run forever. I know several folks who have topped 100,000 miles on theirs. Mine had 80,000 and still ran quietly with no rattles or mechanical noise. It actually felt faster than the 14, although I know for a fact it wasn't. Keep good oil in the sump and keep the valves adjusted and the carbs synched and it will reward you with butt-clenching speed and touring-bike comfort.
