Kawasaki Releases Final Horsepower and Torque Specs for ZX-14
By Dirck J. Edge

Kawasaki has released their final (claimed) horsepower and torque specs for their highly anticipated ZX-14 sportbike. Many media outlets had expected Kawasaki to claim 200hp for the ZX-14, but Kawasaki defied expectations - the published specs are 187hp and 113.5lb-ft of torque, with 197hp when the ram-air system is in effect.

ZZR1400 with a claimed 200PS @ 9.500rpm

But only ram-air assisted. 190hp @ 9.500 is the real figure and the new 14 really will be a torque monster with 154Nm @ 7.500 rpm. Kawasaki has waited for ages to release the final figures, but now that it soon is time to launch the bike to the press all data has been released. TS

ZZR1400 figures announced

ZZR1400 figures announced

Recognised as the world leader in high performance motorcycles since the 1970s, Kawasaki had to have an undisputed open-class king again. To ensure that Kawasaki's reputation for unbeatable performance remains untarnished, the new ZZR1400 churns out 200 horsepower with Ram Air.

Even if the guiding theme for the ZZR1400 is to be "the most powerful", maximum top speed wasn't a primary aim. The greatest challenge for the project team was how to express the three pillars of Kawasaki high performance in a single machine: Kawasaki's premium brand image, Kawasaki's DNA, and an aura that distinguishes the ZZR1400 from its rivals.

Showing less weight and wheelbase than the ZZR1200 and more performance than even the Ninja ZX-12R, the latest evolution of all-powerful ZZR DNA is something to get excited about - something big, bad and loaded with Kawasaki attitude.

Kawasaki reveals horsepower figures for ZZR1400

Kawasaki reveals horsepower figures for ZZR1400
February 9, 2006 - Al

We've just had some figures in from the US which are, apparently, the first official power and torque figures for the ZZR1400.

Kawasaki has resisted the temptation to release a 200bhp bike - but not by much. The firm's claiming 187bhp for the motor - but that leaps to 197bhp when the bike's advanced ram-air system is in full operation. Torque is even more impressive - just over 113lbf ft is a massively strong figure, so gearchanges should be moot in most situations.

Considering removing the catalysts and fitting a race pipe normally boosts power by anywhere up to 10 per cent, simply throwing an Akrapovic on there should easily see you hitting 200bhp on the dyno.

So how fast will it go mister? Well, even with those slippery fairing panels, 200bhp will still probably only see about 195 real mph, we reckon. But with a fair wind, tiny test rider (Dave Smith???) and some light tuning, this could finally be the genuine double-ton bike. We can't wait to ride the thing...

ZZR-1400 not quite 200bhp

ZZR-1400 not quite 200bhp
February 10 2006

Kawasaki’s ZZR1400 wont be the 200bhp bike that everyone thought it would be – but it gets pretty close.

The firm has released official power figures and without ram-air the bike is claimed to make 187bhp, still a pretty impressive helping of go.

But put ram-air in to play and you can expect 197bhp from that stock bike accompanied by a massive 113.5ftlbs of torque.

The firm also confirmed that you’ll be able to own one of the beasts for £8,995 – just £200 more than the 2006 ZX-10R.

The first machines are expected to arrive at dealers by April.
