I notice sometimes when I put bike into first, it jerks or pops in hard. I have a 08 zx14 with 4k miles. Is this normal?

Normal but can be softened by lowering the idle to about 950 to 1000.
If you go too low the bike will die.

I've read that elsewhere in the forums, does normal mean it wont hurt anything? Is it something that should be adjusted?

Pretty much all bikes do it to a certain degree. 4k you still got a fairly fresh bike I have 7800 on my 08 and its very slight. My M109R you had better have the front brake on or you were going to go for a little ride guess that's why I sold it.

Normal I guess in the way Kawi designed it. Doesn't hurt anything, just takes some getting used to. It goes away a bit after warmed up too.
I hope they changed it for the 2012 model.
Did you just get the bike?

doesn't hurt anything, but ez is right if you lower your idle it will soften, me personally like the idle around 1050-1100, but that being said depends on the temps outside etc...
