I live in Los Angeles, and recently bought this Ninja 636 and the dude put a straight pipe on it. It is loud as hell and I'm just worried about getting a ticket. I kind of like the noise, but I don't think it's worth getting fined over.

Is this illegal?

I don't know much about the mechanics of bikes, but from the looks of it, can I just get a slip on and install it? Or did he totally fuck up the exhaust?

Considering that you're in SoCal, I'd say that's a ticket waiting to happen.
Keep an eye on the classifieds for a slip-on.
Maybe even hit up kawicycle (member) for a cheap stocker, until you can get a nice slip-on.
He's right in your neighborhood too, and always parting out kawi's.

Yea here in LA I can find a decent Yoshi slip on for about $175 bucks. While I have the attention of you guys, can you tell me what the fuck he did to the bottom of this bike? It feels/looks like he put duct tape down and sprayed some hardening substance over it.

And thanks for not baggin on me...yet...I'm aware I'm mechanically tarded, but I respect the bike's power.

It's probably aluminium foil tape.
Probably trying to use it as heat shield.
that pipe gets pretty hot.

Ah ok, makes sense. Damn I'm so impatient, the processing and shipping takes sooo long for the fairings. Trying to find a faster method, I doubt it will happen.

dude in SOcal thats just a tickin timebomb for the cops... i was in Bakersfield with my bike and ran just headers and mid and never got a ticket... but being in LA riding like that is almost the same as wearing a sign on your lower back that says "insert here"

of couse this is illegal as there are noise requirments, that is why stock mufflers are so quiet. I love quiet exhausts. From what I hear, California is one of the worst states for enforcing rules like this and pollution. Slip on would probably be easy enough
