Greetings all,
I bit the bullet and bought a set of stick coils.
I've been checking Feebay for awhile and finally
found a set with the harness from a 05 ZX10R
CHEAP.
Got them in 5 days from the States :clap(I'm in Australia)
Checked'em out and all seems good.
Gonna make up the new harness tomorrow then
we'll go from there.
I will keep you posted on progress.
I hope you have better weather than
we have down here ATM (first day of Winter....Booooo!!!).
Have a GREAT Weekend.
STAY SAFE,
Gav

Okay,Okay....... COIL STICKS !!!
(wrote post at 2:am :drink40 listening to the Friday night
"Metal show"- MAN O WAR still kick ass :crazyloco).

My "Car head" friends had NO idea what I was talking about when
I told 'em about my purchase....they call 'em the "Coil Pack".
Funny one the other day too,
my neighbor asked me about "Upgrading" the "points" on his
'05 YZ--250 "Chook Chaser",WTF ????
Apparently it had "New" points installed recently.....Hmmmmm.
I've tried to stop him buying "stuff" (from farmers) on
"Evilbay" without research:banghead.

I done a bit of reading on the COIL STICK setup on
ZXROA forum,
some great info to be had there (diagrams, dyno tests, etc etc).
Lotsa guys there have done it and they mention "US" here
on ZX-11 forum too.
I'm off to the parts store for some supplies.
Cheers,
Gav

Any mention about problems using those coils on ZRXOA?
Hi Claude,
There a ton of info on there (I signed up).
A couple of the guys (SeanS & Pal )have done a crap load of
research on what works & what doesn't, what serial number/brands works, resistance, wiring etc.
The sticks I got are (ZX10 mitsu.#F6T549/560).

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links to other forums so...
If you go there (ZXROA) checkout the threads-

"What happens when kids wad up their gixxers" (by SeanS).
&
"Stick coils install" (by Pal).
and
" Stick Coils P/N info "

If you want any more info, I'd be glad to PM
you the links.
Cheers,
Gav

Gavel, I already have stick coils on my 1100; no need to read ZRXOA. I am just curious to know if, during your search there, you found some post about problems related to those coils.

Gooday Mate,
Nothing of concern - No major failures.
They all seem pretty happy with the mod.
It tidies up under their tanks making for easier
carb adjustments.
Poor Buggars will never have the fun of removing
the rear panels, tank surrounds, tank and airbox
to adjust theirs carbs..like us :nana
Cheers.

Just a quick FYI,
Thanks to original poster on ZXROA.

The coils that work for the mod must be 5 in. long and have aprox.
resistance of 1.3-1.5 ohms ea., here's some info I got, will update.
These are the p/n's and years that work, any other may not work.

Suzuki GSXR: 1000 (01-07), 750 (01-05), 600 (01-03)
oem p/n 33410-35F10/35F00 (Denso p/n 129700-4400/4150)
4400/1.5 ohms, 4150/1.3 ohms
new aprox. $69

Kawasaki: ZX10/14 (04-07) oem p/n 21171-0005/1.5 ohms
ZX9 (99-03) + ZX12 (03-05) oem p/n 21171-1265/1286

FYI I am running ones off a ZX 14. Not alot of miles on since I did the mod but seem to be working great. I just saw your other post regarding how to wire them. I got a diagram from someone that was easy to follow and made the harness plug right into the existing wiring for the coils. If I ever want to go back I can really easy. If you need/want the diagram I can probably find it and send it your way.

Ok, advantages?

Say over running Iridiums or std high voltage coils....... Higher voltage? Cleaner spark? More effecient, or just more high tech wiring to fail down the road?

Seems to me, more wires, more coils, more chance of failure. Sometimes to much redundancy isnt a good thing, but what the hell do I know?

Hi Blaine...
I do see your point.
Not really any performance gains as such and not that much
more wiring than is already there BUT
as my 20 year old caps have gone to the ZX Gods ,
the only new replacements I could find were $30 EACH (plus $18 postage)
and the coils were pretty much the same price for secondhand,
I opted for $15 for the 4 sticks (plus $40 postage) as I'm on a tight budget.
Casual work SUCKS. Been there over 2 years & they still haven't offered me a permanent position.
Worst case- they fail & I go back to the old coils with car plug leads
like I'm running ATM.
I'll take a coil failing over a sprocket coming off at 60mph...any day.
Take care,
CHEERS

Thanx for the info Gav. Im pretty much in the same boat as you. Temp work for the last 2 years, just cant seem to land a permanent gig, so things are very tight for me as well...

Let hope things pick up soon.

You trade the extra coil for getting rid of plug wires (another point of failure). The harness isn't more wiring, just organized differently. As Gav says, down the road the stick coils will be more readily available as spares then the stock coils.

Plus, using that room under the tank for the intercooler :evil

Greetings All,
Took a week off work to do some things around the house
and to install my coils.
Happy to report.....all went well. The bike starts and runs fine
(as good as it can without the airbox).
Haven't put it back together, so no road testing yet.
Only prob I had was... grossly over estimating how long
the harness should be. Easily fixed..
a snip here, a snip there and Bob's your Aunty !!!
Pics and report tomorrow (weather permitting).
Cheers,
Gav

Greetings All,
Well, they're in and she's back together.
No Dramas at all. :crazyloco
Started easy and my idle is the best it's been in ages.
(I suspect the old plug caps were the culprit after finding one cracked).
Didn't take her out for a test BUT will tomorrow.
Here's some pics, sorry there's not much to show,
it's pretty basic stuff for US.
Hell, I even had enough time to add some "BLING".
Take Care out there.
Cheers,
Gav
