I have a 1999 zx7r.

I just got back from a ride, pulled it in my garage and hit the kill switch. When I did that, all the lights shut off. (normally all lights stay on, just the motor dies)

Now there is no power to the lights, turn signals, horn, starter... nothing.
Battery is good. I can jump the solenoid and the starter spins the motor.

Checked fuses, all are good. Even the 30 fuse on the soleniod.
any ideas?

Thanks in advace,
-Dom

and 5 mins later, i got a update. I was reading some other threads and the thought of a bad ignition switch.

White has power, blue does not.. Jump the two together, and everything lit back up.

But wtf? I use the kill switch to shut the bike off. How does that make the ignition switch go bad?

I think you are attempting to hot wire the bike, effectively, and that is why it does not start.

You can't just bypass the ignition switch. You can remove the ignition cylinder and clean the contacts and make sure everything works.

Well, actually I am sure you can bypass it, but not just by jumping two wires together.

Get a manual with a wiring diagram if you plan on doing any more work to this bike.

I strongly suggest it. Saves a LOT of headache and questions later.

Just need to also get that 100 ohm resistor that is in the Ignition Switch to get 6v to the Grey wire that feeds the CDI, bike hot wired....

To explain what goes wrong with that grey wire, read this biblical post by Saint ******... HERE

Def with ya Squidge, OP should do it correctly, I was just more jokingly adding to your funny comment about almost hotwired...Maybe should edit that out, that isn't knowledge the world really does not need to know, but who carries a 100 ohm resistor around with them... Maybe ******.

I also almost have ****** on speed dial, I chat with Jim daily... All three of his computers died stalling our EFI project... He has my Gas Tank, moding it like his to put a gas-tank sending unit... He is the man, Chuck Norris has a Picture of WhiteHendrix on his wall!

Anyone who picks up a wiring diagram can figure out how to bypass the ignition. It isn't exactly quick though.

true. okay, thanks..

Well if i can get the bike running without the ignition switch, i will know for sure its that.. I cant waste $50 if its not it..
Anybody know where I can get a wiring diagram? I would get a manual, but nobody around my city sells them, I would need to order it online.

To bad you were no a little closer to south Jax, I could take a look at her for you, or trailer her up, I live about 10 minutes from the 295/9A/95 cloverleaf in Mandarin.... I'm on vacation until the end of April... Then new job starts.... As for a wiring diagram, here is the one I host on my webpage.

Okay, so i dont have a dremel or a good small drill with a small metal bit..
So i took the blade off of a hacksaw and did it by hand.. Got a slot in both bolts and unscrewed them with a flat head..

Im looking at it, and that just looks like it takes off a cover.. not unbolting the ignition switch from the tree. Any ideas? Looks like there is bolts from the bottom of the switch, but no size socket works? another security bolt?

Also, i tried doing some searching on the forums, and I see how people can think someone stole a bike, came on this forum, and is asking how to take out the ignition switch.. If anybody has any doubt, I do have the title and registration in my name, along with the bill of sale, and I can prove it upon request.
