I need to replace my forks seals on a 98 zx9r c1.
I'm wondering what the bottom allen bolt size is and can I remove it with just an impact gun and no tool on the inside holding the cylinder unit??

I will also replace the guide bushings too.
Please let me know how to disassmble this unit as the manual says I need a special tool but on other forks I have just hit the bolt with an impact gun.

Idk if the 9 forks.are the same as a 7 but you need an impact to get the bottom bolt out(dont remember size). You dont need to take that out to change the fork seals though, not sure on bushing.

I'll sell you my 96 zx9r forks if you wanna try to swap them on.
Thank you for he offer but, i will just change out my seals and bushings at this point.

I"ve been told that the allen bolt size is 10 mm so i have found a set of long allen keys on sockets and hope to have any size of bolt covered.

Once i complete this task i will report back in case others are interested.

Ok so....the job is done.
Yes , it is a 10mm allen bolt at the bottom and yes, you can remove it with just a impact gun and no tool to hold the inside cylinder unit.

I replaced the guide bushings as well as the oil seal and dust seal.
I used tapped the outer guide bushing in slowly with assistance of the washer and a punch / tap hammer.
The seal was installed using the old seal , punch / tap hammer.
All n all there was no real issues.
