So last night I was awakened by the cops pounding on my door at 3:30 in the morning. Apparently 3 black dudes attempted to jack my bike. They picked it up and moved it about 100 yds away to a pavilion near my apartment building. A neighbor called the cops as it looked "suspicious." The cops arrested all 3 dudes. All said and done, I lost some sleep and they managed to bust the ignition switch off the top triple. Looks to be about $300 for parts and a little time for me to get everything tore down and put back together. I dont have access to a garage currently. Does anyone have any recommendations on security? I have a GPS on it but I am now considering a disc lock that has an alarm. My bedroom is only about 40 feet from where I park it.

Good thing they caught the bastards. I wonder if they can be forced to pay for repairs.
If they picked the bike up, not too much can be done for security. Disc locks won't do any good and might bend a rotor if you forget to take it off or if someone tries rolling it. Can get pricey for repairs either way.

I live in an apartment when down at school and have been thinking about this exact thing... All I can come up with is leave it in the back of my truck with a cable lock through the rim and to something secure on the truck..

Have yet to do it, but within the next month or so I will be bringing it down here from home so I will try to post pics if I remember

Maybe drop a couple bucks on a gift certificate or something for those neighbors. My neighbors would be like "Ha ha, they're stealing that jackasses bike".

I sleep pretty hard for about 3 hrs a night. It blows my wife's mind how I go into a borderline coma. My new thoughts are to make sure I cover it up and put a Xena disc lock that has a tamper sensor in it. From the reviews it appears that they are somewhat sensitive. It makes me think that if they are removing the cover it might set it off and thus deter them.

@185 the cops said the judge should award punitive or restoration damages to me but not to expect the money for about 5-6 months if they dudes can even pay it.

XENA locks are really good, i just ordered one, they have alarms in them 120db, and if you forget its on there as soon as you move the bike it beeps so you won't mess up your rotors. Glad they didn't get your bike, by the way what kind of GPS do you have on your bike?
