OK: i have a 99 zx750p i put a new aftermarket ignition switch on and everything works except the ignition isn't getting spark, what i found out was its the gray wire, only because i hookup the old ignition only the white wire and the gray it runs , i checked it to see how many volts were going threw it and i think it is around 12 volts, what gives this doesn't make sense.:grump:

I have had a couple of these Chinese knockoff ignition. When they copied it they left the 100 ohm resistor off the grey wire. On a couple I just swapped the board and wires from my old as all I needed was a new cylinder. The other one I cut the grey wire and put a 100 ohm wire inline and covered with shrink tube after soldering.

I am also having a bit of trouble

I think I may be on the same frontlines with this battle. I just got my bike back from the shop, and leaving the shop, about a block from my house the bike completely dies on me, as in the dash dies out, no oil or neutral lights. Lucky, I got it home and lifted up the seat and checked the Junction box and the IG fuse was blown, replaced the fuse two more times with same result. The first time I called up my mech. and he believes it the ignition switch is bad due to finding two wires burnt up coming from the Ig switch. (which he cut out and bridged back) I Love to know what you guy think, if the resistor in the IG switch was to go bad would it cause the ignition fuse to keep being blown as I try to start the bike?

HI, i your post is a few years old now, and i hope you dont mind ..but ive fitted an aftermarket ignition switch to my zzr 600 and the wires on new aswitch are different colours from original...i figure that dont matter if they go to the right places..i understand about the grey 100 ohm thing but even though fitting it DID rectify the no neutral light problem, i have no indicators..? have you got a relevant wiring diagram you could send me the link to...sorry for the big story, but i reckon information is power...thanks..

Do I install the resistor in the wire from the ignition switch or from the CDI
There is a resistor inside the original switch.. If you are fitting new Chinese switch it may have one in already, some have.. You'll have to have a look inside it if you can, mine was only two screws/bolts, and I changed my original wiring and "board" into new switch.. Saves need for resistor and all wires are obviously right colours... If you need to fit resistor it goes in grey wire..I fitted mine in the grey wire, between switch and connecting block... Before I decided to swap switch loom....

No resistor in switch, can I just splice the grey wire from the ignition switch to the connector and solder in a resistor there?

Yea that worked perfectly, thank you for your input
Where did you do that did you do it inside the ignition on the grey wire or where it connects into the wiring harness under the tank I bought an aftermarket ignition for a 2004 ninja 250 because I lost the old key and now it has no spark I put a resistor on the grey wire inside the ignition and still no spark any help would be awesome about to give up soon
