Hey guys I recently lost my keys how to start an ignition swap I ordered one online it did not come with a built-in 100 ohm resistor I've seen many older posts speaking to this but it was difficult in many ways to find the exact answer I'm looking for. I tried swapping out the ignitions I installed the new one and put an inline 100 ohm resistor, quarter watt, .25 and it was fine for 10 minutes then began violently backfiring and stuttering, sometimes Toba halt. now I have one ignition with a drilled out cylinder that works but is ridiculous, and one brand new ignition with no 100 ohm resistor, that is what I'm assuming is causing my bike to backfire and not run and the next option is a Woodcraft Bypass and another $60 home in my pocket. In terms of bypassing, can some provide pics, info, detailed on how best to route everything. So many old responses differ and are valid or reliable... Any help guys.. I just wanna ride- keep my mind off my father and othervstressors

Take the two ignitions apart, swap the new cylinder into the old switch. You should be good to go.

So I did everything right I believe. The old ignition switch w new cylinder. The 100ohm resistor in place. The bike runs great for about 5 minutes, can wheelie down the road, then she starts to bog down stutters, and dies. She starts right up and will stay started at idle but as soon as I get going into the higher RPM band on acceleration she dies out again. From what I've read in other posts I'm going to take the airbox off, I'm going to check the carbs, I'm going to check the fuel filter, I'm going to check the fuel pump, I checked the fuses and replaced all my 20 amp fuses already. Last but not least I'll check valve clearances if necessary. I've never done that and I don't really know how but I may have to. I've read stuff about kickstand switch etc.doesnt seem to be my problem.also seen posts regarding clutch switch. I did adjust my clutch cable the same day this all happened. I adjusted it because I was having difficulty going into neutral at a stop or any other gear for that matter. so I adjusted the clutch cable which was to too loose, I tightened it up, she goes into neutral fine now, and I'm able to slide her into any gear at a stop, so I don't think it's that but it may be... please guys, if anyone has any suggestions, this is driving me insane.. I'm not getting any indication lights on my dash or other issues, so I don't know what it is what's doing this. I ran her the other night and she was amazing I was doing 160 mph and she purred... what happened ??? why when it starts does it run so well until a few mins later? I'm thinking the carbs are out of sync, floats full with fuel or not, it sounded like one or two of the cylinders weren't firing properly when it was bogging down and she had a really strange growl... The backfires were enormous!!!! I mean the loudest back fires I've ever heard!!! Help me!!! Thanks everyone!
