I think my generator has failed on my bike. Does anybody know the test procedures or already has the manual (mine is ordered) and can look them up. Basically, wires look good, brand new batt, bike will run for a while but then die from lack of electrical juice. I've looked inside the cover and the wires look good and the shaft is spinning properly (i.e. the generator is turning).

I want to actually make sure that it's bad before I go and replace it. Anybody know how? Also is there any way I can rebuild the unit I already have?

I am going thru the same thing on my 89 right now.I already replaced it 2 yrs ago with a ZX11 alternator. You will come out a lot cheaper just getting one from ebay and running it until it burns out.ZX11,ZX900(84-86)1000R(86)ZRX11-1200,Gpz1100(95-97)Concours or 900-1000 Eliminator will all bolt right in. Kaw wants 475.00 for a new one.You can replace parts but you have to un-solder connections etc..Not worth the time and money in my opinion.

What year of bikes worked for this replacement for you? I'm seeing upwards of 850.00 for a OEM replacement online and just can't afford that.

if I'm not mistaken I believe they were used on the majority of the zx10's from 86 to 90
