whats the best way to repair crack in race bodywork (fiberglass)

Hey guys,

I need to repair a crack in my race bodywork upper.

There is a crack about 1/2" long all the way through the material, not just a surface crack, this is located on the right hand side, the area in front of where the brake lever is, and below the windscreen. Right in the curve. there are also a few small surface cracks above main crack.

I have no bodywork or fiberglass experience, but ive heard its an easy repair and im gonna give a whack at it. what do i do to fix this? I was going to try to find a syringe and inject epoxy in there but i dont know any meth addicts off the top of my head so im stumped.

If you have any tips please help, im betting someone in here has to work with fiberglass!!!!!! thanks guys!

There is a plastic bondo that is great for these kind of repairs. I have used it on fairings and bumper covers on cars and it always does an amazing job. The best thing about it is that it dries to a sandable hard but still remains flexible. And if you apply it right, you hardly have to do any sanding. You will need to prime and paint over it though.

Never done fibre glass repairs but I have seen bags of fibre glass for repairs in auto shops.

Shifty's right on with this one. Im in the process of building a whole body and Bondo is the way to go for small repairs. Fiberglass isn't bad but its a mess and a lot more sanding.

you can get a basic fiberglass kit from any auto parts store. I use the sheet fiberglass that you have to cut and resin. it is messy but is the proper way to fix fiberglass. it is also one of the only ways to patch big cracks or holes that have gaps.
