Magnetic Tank Bags

I've tried looking at some of the older threads, but none of the answers seem to apply to my model (2018 ZX-14R). Apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything in the other threads.

Over the years, I've become accustomed to riding with a tank bag, with my last one being an Oxford X30. A little bigger than I really needed, but the magnets held like gooey baby poop to a very hairy blanket. I've had a week's worth of groceries when it was expanded, but only for a few miles to get back to my apartment. Now that my long-haired accountant will be riding with me, I need something that will hold a couple of water bottles, a battery bank, etc.

I tried a couple of fairly strong magnets on my tank (don't worry... a cloth was under them so I didn't scratch the paint), but they didn't seem to stick all that well. I really like magnetic fit instead of tank-lock or fiddling with straps.

My question is, does anybody have any issue with magnetic fitment tank bags on the current model '14R? 15-20 litres capacity with map pocket would be about perfect, if you have any suggestions.

Sweet!

I think I saw the Cortech at one of my local dealers, so I'll take another look and check it out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I used to hear that about magnetic bags all the time, but I haven't had an issue with them yet. I used the yoke safety strap on the Oxford once, and felt it was too much of a faff to bother in future.

I just find it a pain using the strap type or the tank-ring fitments when it comes time to fill the tank. Can you recommend something other than a magnetic to check out?

You got that chit right regarding fill ups, I use the front strap that comes with my bag and secure it to the clutch fluid line ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, kidding, the steering head but the back set up isnt very secure so I use two 1 foot bungies from the rear strap and cross them and hook the other end down near the foot pegs. When I fuel up I only undo the rear bungies and slide the bag off to the side to get access to the tank. Your right its a pain

I used the Axiom magnetic bag that I had on me XXs for many years. That worked well and didn't slide up at high speeds, 90 mph, plus, unless the tank was freshly waxed.

On my '16 14R, the metal gas tank doesn't show enough metal to hold that tank bag properly. So, I went with the Cortech Dryver with the ring lock mount system and love it. It's easy to twist and set on the gas tank for fill ups and twists back on. Solid as a rock at all speeds. It worked marvelous when I rode to Calif from Minn a couple years ago, with my 84 year old dad on his 650 Ninja AND same tank bag. 6k miles in 2 weeks. I never leave home without it.

I had a Cortech sloper magnetic bag on mine. Had to use a strap at the front since the magnets don't stick to plastic, but that made it easy to swing the bag aside at fill-ups. It did not come off in the crash.
ZXKawboy likes this.

It may be a pig, but it's a pig with a rocket in it's ass!

Well F me in the A, Thats bitchen, Why do I always see stuff like this after I buy the wrong Chit.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
This is the bag I use on long trips, It comes apart so on daily stuff Its half the size, When I laid my bike down the bag got some small damage and the insurance company paid for all new stuff so I got the same tank bag. The sections Zipper together, So Her and I went on a 1400 mile trip last week on a 14 so what we could fit in the bag is all we could bring. I was able to take the lower compartment off the old set up and zip it to the lower of the new bag and zip the top compartment on top of the two and it worked.
Now I couldn't see the gauges at all cuz the top of tank bags were higher then the wind screen but it did allow for just barely enough romm for all our stuff. I had to put a bungie over the top of everything to keep it stable at 139 miles an hour. Not that we did that
