no electrical power !

Hey folks

I have no clue what's going on with my 05 zzr 1200.

I forgot the key at the ON position for about 1 hr and the bike would not start. we user a battery eliminator to start it. It would not start. We waited a short while to charge it as the battery was so dead it would not even spark the plugs. It eventually started no problem

took the bike home, but it on slow charge. next morning I come in. battery is charged. power is gone !!!! turn the key, nothing happens ! not even the clock works. absolutely no electricity is going in the system. Battery is good. I even swapped it for another battery I had on a zx11 and same results !!!!

I am a bit clueless.

thx for any advice !

Check your fuses. There's a good chance you may have blown one of them.

ok so I had en electric issue back in the day. while i was riding I lost complete power I mean nothing would work just like you are experiencing right now.. a buddy of mine did a lil test with a spark pen.. well turns out the wire that leads to my on/off switch inside the plastic housing came apart from the sauder that kept it together... easy fix.. just saudered it back on.. everything worked after that.. another Ruff Ryder I knew when we had a bike meet. Her bike was experiencing a similar issue on her katana. Well turns out her fuse box wasnt grounded and causing it to shut off.

I actually had the same thing happen with my ignition switch on my ZX6R. One of the wires snapped and I had to resoder it back on. I was gonna tell him to check that after he checked the fuse box if it turnes out no fuses were blown lol. That's a little easier than ripping off the ignition switch

ideas

thanks for the quick replies guys

I checked all the fuses from the box and the main fuse (sitting by the battery 2X 30A and 1 X 10A). they are all OK. Also checked the ground from the battery...goes straight to the frame...no problem there.

people point to the switch but remember that the clock is not even on !!! this means no electricity anywhere ! if there was a problem with the switch, I would at least have the time on the clock ! now its like the battery is disconnected !

I'll check the switch, but the mike was OK when left alone at 9 pm, next morning its fried !!!! I really dont get it. relays by the battery ?

thanks again

My ignition switch broke while I was riding and cut all power to the bike. When that happened I didn't have any power either, no mileage, no speedo, nothing. Lol it all depends which wire snapped.

sounds like the switch man.. take off the housing to the switch and check to see if the wife was broken off.

fuse !!!!!

OK folks...my bad I guess

It was the main 30A fuse that was actually sitting in front of the battery. replaced it and went back to normal.

Since this happened overnight, litteraly, I sort of knew that the wiring had not been tampered with and the bike has 30kKm on it.

thanks for your help and support !

Not sure if you got an answer from anyone but, The problem sounds like a hot wire is grounding out. You will have to check locations where the wires could rub the coating off. I would start with checking around the switch wiring and the battery box. I had the plug from the stator to the regulator melt on me. That plug is behind your seat. Taking the rear plastic off will be the best way to get a good look at it.
