to the harley note about exccessive sound but no horsepower, do you guys watch south park? If you do or don't look up the episode "the f word", great episode showing that harley guys just like to be overly stupid loud and annoying, revving their engines more than actually riding the bike.
and i understand that harleys have same dangers as us but in central wisconsin 80% of all harley drivers (yes drivers not riders because they might as well be a car) dont wave, look the other direction, or shake their head at you. when your at a gas station or food place they may not acknowledge you or they will make a comment making fun of you and you cant say much becuase he has 2-5 other biker dudes that are just as big as he (1 against 5 is not good odds). Also i've come to notice they probabaly never took rider safty or anything because they dont know anything about road safty (not looking over shoulder to check blind spot, riding in middle of road, serving about in there lane, etc)
sorry but harley guys are fags...watch the episode
sorry for getting off topic :-(

Funny I was out today and got behind a typical harley guy black vest, tassles flyin and ankles up on the front mounts with his feet all splayed out like he was flashin everybody...anyway he was rollin along about 50 in a 55 but I decided to hang back after I thought of this thread and had waved unsuccessfully to a couple other Harley riders moments earlier before catching up to this guy. As it was a great weekend there where tons of bikes out so I put myself back far enough to be seen as a separate rider and watched as sporter an harley alike passed us and I noticed that most of the harley guys that waved waved to both of us, most all of the sport riders waved at both of us but the overwhelming majority of the Harley riders where just to damn cool to wave at all I guess?? cause they didnt even acknowledge the fellow hog.
So I have decided that I will wave if I see a bike but I am not going to look and see if they wave back because I dont give a rats ass if they do or not. I did what I think is polite, courteous and rider appropriate as far as the "rules of riding etiquette" are concerned, After all its just a gesture that has become, on a nice spring or summer day almost annoying to continue doing by sheer volume of repetition.
But still I find it just the slightest bit gratifying to acknowledge a fellow rider and know he feels the same things I do about riding and being on the road on a motorcycle. So to all you that didnt wave screw off and get a life? to anybody that I was late to wave to or missed...hope I catch ya next time nothin personal

|Far916||I guess I really don't pay attention to "other" riders, I don't look at them to see if they wave, nod or whatever, Im too busy in my own world of whats going on around me, ususally ahead or to the sides of me to worry about what kind of bike another rider has or if they wave at me. After reading this thread though, I did notice a rider waving to me just as he passed me, but since he was already passed, I didn't bother to wave back. Maybe there are just too many bikes around here, if I were to wave at all of them I would only be riding with my right hand on the throttle, and the other to wave... Oh well, stay safe out there....|

|bigsmoothe4203||i agree but the situation was dumb. in the paddock where there is alot of ppl and expensive equipment. maybe just bc it was mine haha|

|JBear||I've seen far more sport bike "types" than Harley making that mistake.|

|bigsmoothe4203||i always waved at all riders, to me we were all a part of the same group. i know some dont feel that way but oh well. i now have a huge issue with harley types every since one decided he wanted to do a smoke show in the paddock area and started losing control. instead of dropping his bike he kept tryin to save it and almost hit my race bike.|

|XanderZX6R||I wave at everyone riding. I don't think mopeds are for me but they're on two wheels facing the same dangers we face on the road so to me they're in the club. (kind of like your mentally challenged cousin if you will) I've noticed a few gruff harley riders that wont wave but for the most part everyone waves back if they can. I spend a bit of time at our local harley biker bar and they didn't take to me well at first but when i started bringing well endowed ladies that are my age in there...i became quite popular. :-P|

Here's the real culprit: BMW riders.....
Around here 5-10% of harely guys wave. As many have said I'll wave when I see a nice duc , another ninja or when waved at first and its convenient. I also have a place in my heart for 84-86 Nighthawk 700s, Buells (RIP), ZX7's, and VFR's - anything unique enough to deserve respect. But I curse everytime I accidently initiate the wave to a guy on a Bimmer.
Whether he is the typical Dbag in an Aerostitch suit and hardbags or hes on one of their ugly cruiser-things, they never wave. I dont have any hate toward harley guys because I really dont consider them motorcyclists. I consider them bikers. They are in it for SUCH a drastically different reason than I am (few of them LD sport-tour, none of them drag hard parts- on purpose) that they dont bug me. But BMW guys are, for the most part, very much like us (especially the ones on S1000RR's but havent seen one yet) yet they feel they are better.
BULLSHIT! Bimmer guys actually killed the wave for me. I used to wave when it was convenient and I wasn't looking to my right for Deer or Moose, but I got skunked so many times that now I just wave when waved at or to guys on bikes I wish I had.

|ninjanole||i dont wave to scoots cause the kids that tend to drive them are idiots. the ones around here think they can do the same things as a bike can do. No you cant pull out into traffic late and out run them. And that fucking honking crap drives me nuts... the only good thing ive seen ride a scoot here was not a clown or a midget but Capt. Morgan himself lol.|
