I had a 98 and just sold it about a year ago. It was my bike for 18 years. I really liked that bike. I did nothing to it to raise the bard, lower the pegs and it fit me like a glove, I could do 600 mile days on the rocket. I never met anyone that owned one say he didnt like it, That all liked theirs. Tires, chains and sprockets, brake pads, hoses clamps o rings and 1 fork seal were the only things I had to replace. But every time I went on a long ride I had to mess with it more and more to make sure she would make it. Doesnt mean its not a bad azz bike. A good running one can still hold its own.
One thing I can tell you is check the valve lash and do it often. You run those rockers with zero lash for very long and things are going to start to get real.
