ZX-6R 06 Valve clearance

Hi guys,

I'm trying to do my first ever valve clearance check. How important is to have the 1st pinston in TDC- position? Or is the measured dimension valid, if the shaft is not "pushing" the valve. Since the diameter on that "not touching" area is the same on all positions. Or is it relevant on what position the piston is?

Please see the image below, I took the measurements while I rotated the shaft to achieve these kind of positions:

Some tutorials (like service manual) said that shaft should have a one certain position. Some tutorials said it really doesn't matter, if the gap is at it's largest position nad shaft is not pushing the valve. And some say it must be pointing outwards from the engine...

I got the following clearances with this method, not sure if I did it correctly or not...

I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask :D

Pointing directly away is what you want. There's "quieting ramps" that ease the valve open and closed . is it hard to get to the indicator on the ignition rotor ?
