I just sold my Z1000 to buy a 98 ZX9r. Having it shipped to me from the East Coast. Hope I made a good decision!
After skimming through your forum, it seems this bike has a few problems. I have heard before that they are pretty much bullet-proof. Is this correct or not? The one I am getting is in excellent condition, and owned by an older guy (like me) so I know it hasn't been abused.
Anyway...looking forward to reading all the posts and finding out all about my new toy....which won't be here for a couple weeks yet!
Welcome. I think bulletproof is actually pretty close to the mark. The biggest problem I've seen on here is dirty carbs. If the carbs are clean and you run some Stabil gas conditioner in your tank, to keep them clean, along with all the other regular maintenance it should give you trouble free performance IMHO.

Only two things go bad on the 98's, third gear will start to slip (usually sometime after 30k miles) and the cam chain tensioner has been known to go bad. The best fix for the tranny is to drop an entire 2000 or newer transmission in.
