New Bike Questions

I have a chance to pick up a really nice '01 ZX9 cheap. Before I drive to Memphis I have a couple of questions. Are the ZX9s fairly vibration free at highway speeds? Seems like I read the engine is rubber mounted. How much does the bike really weigh? I have seen everything from 435 lbs dry to 475 lbs dry.

ZX-9 is the best highway sport bike I have ridden to date, dont know how the motor is mounted, and I would like to know the dry weight as well.

Google 2001 ZX-9r dry weight

Vibration on the E1/E2 (00-01) ZX-9r is at its worst at 60MPH/4,000 RPM. I've ridden other bikes, and this is somewhat of a relative overstatement. The ZX-9r vibrates so little, going almost completely smooth between 70-78MPH, it makes it an ideal highway touring mount.

My opinion? Best sport-touring mount out there: range, power, comfort. Properly tuned it will, in one way or another, smoke the sport, sport-touring & touring bikes, with a MPT range (mine) 266-275 miles*. Sticks with the more powerful and lighter liter bikes in the canyons, but it's all ZX-9r after that; leaves them in the dust on range and comfort.

Dry weight ~403 lbs.

* Note: From a stock setup with minor changes being air filter, slight jetting adjustment, & replacement of stock exhaust. 9s rejetted and re-geared lower can drop these numbers to 30 MPG/150MPT. Stock is about 235 MPT.

Setup link(s): K&N, Supertrapp Aluminum Racing Series tunable slip-on exhaust, jetted, stock gearing & ignition. ZX-9R MPT max range ~266 - 275 miles & MPG tracker at Fuelly.com

Completely stock with a full fuel tank the 2001 9r would weigh approximately 470#'s (For comparison the '94 to '97s weighed 533#'s full of gas). It has a 5 gallon tank so figure back from there for dry weight. The engine is a stressed member and is solidly mounted and run quite smooth at all rpms, but they can be a bit buzzy above 6000 rpms. It is an AWESOME sport touring bike, there is really nothing to compare it to. 266 miles plus per tank equates to over 53 mpg which is about 5mpg better than the best number I've ever heard of on the 1998 and newer models. I used to regularly get 52 mpg plus on my old 1995 however.
