Going to look at a 1999 Zx9R w/ issues

So the story goes, the dad is selling his sons bike because he doesnt have money to pay for it so hes selling it for 500.

He tells me he was on the freeway and all the sudden he started to lose power so he managed to get it home and he hasnt messed with it since.

They say they havent taken it to a shop so they cant tell me much of anything else. What should i look for when i take a look at the bike. They said they dont know if its the engine or transmission.

Could this kid just not know what hes doing and he effed something up, any tips on what i should do to test, any sounds to listen for would be greatly appreciated

hard to tell exactly what is wrong from the brief description u gave. (for all you know its just a bad spark plug) so it could be something small or something big. BUT for 500 even if something is wrong with it you could atleast part the bike out and sell it piece by piece on ebay. You would make your 500 back and then some. So if the bike has a huge problem at the very least it could be turned into financial profit.

Ya i figure it could be something stupid, he was able to drive it all the way home. If the engine was knocking i doubt he would have driven it home

So the guy said that something popped out of the engine on freeway and he managed to barely get it home.

He seems to think something shot out the of the motor and cracked the front fairing. any ideas?

So part of the engine case is completely broken off. I wasnt able to look all the way inside but here are some pics.

Would it be feasible to disassemble and switch out the case? Im gonna look at a diagram and figure out which case part it is. any ideas?
