Question ZX9r The Dreaded clicking noise!

Ok i bought a 2001 zx9r a few months ago it only has 5k miles on it. When I ride it i hear a clicking noise comming from the engine. The clicking noise gets faster the higher the RPM's are. It doesn't matter what temperature the bike is at or what gear it is in. I always hear the noise. As far as I know it has been serviced at proper intervals and it other than that it runs just fine. What is it and should I be worried?

I think I would be concerned if I didn't hear my valves ticking

Talking

I wondered if that was the valves or the lifters I was just concerned because I was pretty sure the bike didn't make that noise before. But thanks lol If it ever breaks down on me I guess thats just bad karma for getting the bike at a horribly cheap price

This is the first Kawi I've ever owned. Compared to my Yamaha, the ZX-9 is very mechanical sounding.....Lot's of clicks, ticks, etc. I'd say the noises you hear are quite normal.

Hmmm. Where is the clicking coming from? 5K is not very much milleage for a 01', sounds a bit light. In any event, it could be anything, really you need to listen to the motor and identify wear, it is coming from, top (valves), bottom left or right side etc.
One way is to take a piece of wood, end of a broom pole, place one end on the engine and the other at your ear, use your hand to cup the wood to your ear and listen, works really good.

A better way to pin point the noise is stop by sears and pick up an automotive stethoscope(sp) they work wonders. I use one for car motors all the time and I have been able to evem pin point to which rod is knocking on a car motor

Hi newbie '98 ZX9R owner here....just came off a '00 Suzuki TL1000R and if you think the 9R ticks then try the TL's (Ticks Loudly) or also known as TLR (Testicals Lightly Roasted).

I love my 9R, has approx 30,000km (18,600miles) and pulls mighty hard even with some very minor mechanical noises. Though it has had some performance cams and head work and undercut gears done.

If anything get the valves adjusted if you dont know when last done.

Cheers, D
