Exclamation newb clutch question

So let me start by saying hello I am brand new to this site as am I fairly new to the bike scene. I have an 01 zx7r and I cant wait to get back on it and ride it for the first time legally, when I get my licence back this month, now on to the matter at hand. My clutch does not feel as if it is fully engaged when I am pulling on it. I can be sitting at the light, in first gear with the clutch fully squeezed and it does not feel fully ingaged, also if i let go of the break it will slowly creep forward on completly flat ground. Also when I shift into first from neutral it does not feel so smooth. I dont know if there is an easy way to adjust this or if i need to replace it or bleed the lines. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. I have an 01 zx7r with around 16000 miles. Another quick question was what spark plugs are recommended for replacement as far as best quality and performance. The bike has a full muzzy exhaust and after market sprocket, that is all I can tell had been modified on the bike. The guy I purchased it from says that the guy before him did lots of mods internally but has no proof and no idea what he is talking about so I highly doubt any of this is true. Once again thanks in advance for any help provided..... Im sure I will have lots more questions

Welcome to the board and to the zx7. I just bought mine in October of this year and I am getting it ready for the track.

Anyways, it may be the cylinder is sticking. You can remove it and clean it from the front sproket area. check out http://www.redmonkey.com/7r/index.ph...=.%2Fstart.php. It is the zx7 owner club and has tons of info on our bike.

same problem

I also have an 01 ZX-7R with 16,000 miles and I have all the same problems. The clutch didnt do that when i first got it, but started to last fall. Has anyone ever heard of this? It feels like the clutch is still engaged a bit when i have the clutch lever pulled all the way back.

My bike also makes a "clunk" when i put it into first at a stand still or moving. Is this normal?

I Have A Zx7 91/93 And You Should Have A Hydraulic Clutch Lever Like Mine. Which Means That Your Rubber Hose Could Have Some Wear Or You Might Need To Bleed The Line. That Is Where I Would Start At. Good Luck!

When my bike is cold I gotta walk it a little bit before I can pop it in gear. Otherwise it jumps n dies. I'm not a newb to workin a clutch either (race quad). So I know what to feel for when basically givin it hell, and babying it. The guy who owned it before me claimed it just got a new clutch but then again people say anything to make a sale. But thing is, I just replaced about EVERY fluid on my bike. So I know it doesn't need bleed. Any suggestions?

Scott

Hello fellas, When I forst got my bike it clunked pretty good. I didn't know what to do, but after it sat a winter season the hydraulic clutch started leaking. I found that the seal around the rod had pushed itself out and was leaking oil. I cleaned the area around the seal, and put some K&N grease to keep it in there. Then I filled up the reservoir and bled the clutch like 10 times. Everything seems to work great now.

My '01 has 34,000 miles on it, and the clutch is still fine (knock on wood). I've been told my knowledgable people the clutch on these bikes is good up until around 50K. The "clunk" noise in first is normal unless it's so out of whack your bike stalls. My buddy's 6R does the same thing, nice "THUNK" noise when dropping it in first.

As for it pulling forward when you let off the brake, how hard? I mean, if you sit on it with both feet on the ground, can you keep it from moving? If you can't, then I think you have a problem.

For example, when my rear wheel is up on a stand, it's in neutral, and I rev. it, the rear wheel does start to turn, and it will even start turning pretty quick. However, I can easily stop it with my hands, so while there's a bit of grabbing, it's pretty insignificant, and most certainly does not warrant a clutch change at this time.
