Project: Reject

"What we have here is..." Well, it's not a failure to communicate, that's for sure. It is a collection of parts that are as follows: 1994 ZX-750L2 frame, 1992 ZX-750J2 swingarm, 1993-'95 front and rear sub-frames (all individually sourced from E-bay), and front and rear hoops that I had lying around from a wrecked 1994 ZX-9R.

MY PLANS: Build a sweet ride from the ground up using second hand, slightly used, abused, and refurbished parts that I have sourced over the years and will source in the future.

What I have accomplished so far: I had all the pictured parts media blasted by Blast Masters in Nashville, TN. Then a local painter out of Street Rods by Michael, Shelbyville, TN, hooked me up with the red that you see. (Nice enough, but not perfect paint.)

I have brand new steering head, wheel, swingarm and rear suspension rocker arm bearings ready to go on/in. I haven't decided what kind of finish to go with on the upper and lower triple clamps or the rear suspension rocker arm yet so those will have to wait on their bearing install until then.

I was going to polish the unpainted lip of the rims but have now decided to paint that lip the green body color that I am going with and then put on a reflective rim stripe.

Let's get started. I have bearings to install...

lets see lots of pics!!!... we are always in everything everyone does!!!

I like this site how I take someone elses idea and put my spin on it then some other guy takes my idea and puts a spin on it... and then the last guy has something crazy of his own but was the original brain child of the first guy who decided to start cutting/grinding/welding/painting or even just beating with a hammer (not recomended) :P

Nice, Joe. Thanks!! Not sure yet but my graphics will probably center around an updated and revamped version of this:
My wife is a graphic design artist so I'm going to enlist her help with that part of the project.

The logo is the one Scott Russell had on his helmets, his bikes (originally on Muzzy Kawasakis) and the finally his leathers when he raced in World Superbike. That appears to be the latest rendition of it when he raced for HMC Ducati in the AMA Superbike series.

Back to business:

Yesterday:

Snag number one...

Pulled the bearing sleeve for the swingarm pivot from the box of "usable parts" for final inspection prior to seating the bearings in the swingarm and this is what I found:

Pitted and nasty!! (How'd I miss that!) Can't put new needle bearing up against that. So to the wrecked ZX-9R I go. This is what I find:

Not exactly the same part. Some test fitting, some measuring, some pondering... Almost the same but not quite. 2 mil. shorter than that of the 7 unit in length. Damn.

Well, that stopped me in my tracks on the swingarm.

Fast forward to today...

Called the Kawasaki shop today to inquire as to how to get my hands on a new sleeve. "Hey, Bro, they discontinued that part and no other model in the lineup uses that part anymore. Check with the machinist behind the shop and see what he says about making you one." O.k.

Mr. Machinist said, " I could do that but it would run you about 3 bills cause I got to get it heat treated'

Ummm...No, thank you. Then I show him this:

"That? Oh sure I can make as many of those as you want for about $30.00 each."

Sweet. So the plan is for Mr. Machinist to make one up that seats in 2 mil. deeper in the swingarm to make up for the shorter length of the sleeve. So now I'm waiting for Mr. Machinist to get that done.

I will post more tomorrow. Hope to be painting the triple clamps and rear suspension rocker arm this weekend. Then it's on to rebuilding the forks...
