plugs and wires?

so the other day i accidentally shifted lazy from first to second and caught neutral it revved up real good and later i noticed i was stumbing at idle, ruled out a valve tap on the piston by borescoping each cylinder and there were no marks on the piston, only carbon build up but before that when i was removing the plugs and wires the number 3 wire came out from the boot when i was trying to remove it, after inspecting it there was tapered threads inside the boot so i screwed the boot back onto the wire, and that same spark plug had some corrosion on the outer metal portion of the plug. the electrode was fine, maybe a little bit more carbon build up than the other plugs(not by much). after my inspection of the cylinders and having to remove a harbor freight compression tester fitting from my cylinder head (i hate cheap tools) everything went back together. it fired up great and my idle problem went away for a minute, then after a short ride the idle problem became worse. took it on the highway and when i got off my bike died when i came to a stop. restarted, and going down the road at lower rpm i could feel it misfiring.

so i was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem? and how expensive are plug wires? i have ngk iridium plugs installed that have no electrode wear on them so i dont want to replace them if i dont have to

I've been going through that exact problem lately.

The issue is,you can't just buy zx7r spark wires, they come with the ignition coil which is lame. For my bike both ignition coils would run me $180,yours should be a little cheaper...Still it's ridiculous to have to buy new coils when all you need is new wires.

I'm going to be looking into using standard spark plug wire that you can get by the foot at an auto parts store to use on mine.I'm pulling a wire from mine to take into the store today to help to get the size right.

If you're having misfiring don't forget to check your spark plug caps as well, they have a specified amount of resistance,if they're outside of that range they may not operate correctly.Mine are between 3.75 and 6.25 k-ohms,not sure if yours would be the same.

Youll need to buy the wires from a auto parts store, they sell it by the foot. The boots i had to order from my local kawi dealer. None of the dealers in town had them in stock. They run around $25 each if i remember right. Replaced mine about 6 months ago, made a huge difference.

today i made a temporary fix, the wire in question i cut about a half inch off of it before there was no corrosion on the wire section, cleaned out the boot the best i could but i can still see a small speck of corrosion. a temp fix to get me through till i put it up for the winter (next week)

plus the guy i go to for parts and service told me he can order just wires for me as well as the boots, and im probably going to go with new plugs as well
