clutch kills engine
Hey,
About a week ago I added sta-bil and fresh gas to my '89 ZX7. Today I went to start it and it runs and revs in neuteral just like normal. However, when I put it in first gear and begin to let off on the clutch the engine dies instantly. What do you think is up?

OK, Maybe I won the world's biggest dumbass award for this week!
My old '84 interceptor doesn't have a sensor like that, so I didn't even think about it on my ZX7! Would they havehad oneon amodel as old as an '89?

nope i dont believe they have one , i have an 89 and havnt heard of that. is this a bike you ride normally? my guess would lean more towards your carbs. there is also a fuse that goes out thats under your seat check them and see if thats the problem. with mine i had the bike running like yours but when the fuse blew it died.

Has nothing to do with the Sta-bil. And yes, they had kickstand switches in '89...don't know about the Kaw's, but my FZR had one.

My CBR400RR from 1988 had one too.
But i dont think that CTims's problem is due to the sidestand switch else the bike would cut out the instant he shifts into gear and not when he starts releasing the clutch lever.
Low idle perhaps?

Hey,
I started the bike up taday and this time REMEMBERED to put up the kick stand. No problems, the only thing that doesn't work is my brain!
Thanks for the reminder about the kick stand.
