zx7r bogging problems

ok below 5000 rpm it bogs down if i have the throttle wide open its ok, air filter good, i checked my fuel line it was kinked but still didnt help, my throttle tube doesnt stick, carbs might be a tiny bit dirty but i have kept up with them, soo
if im just cruising at 3500-5000 rpm it feels like(u know when its like your fuel is being cut off and the bike is about to die) thats hoew it feels and sounds. but if i go above 5000 rpm and start accelerating its ok. my best guess right now would be to check the fuel pump(also i live in north west florida so temp change varies form 85 one day to 46 the next but i dont think thats the underlieng problem) any help would be appreciated

it wasnt bogging when i did the wheelie lol

gunked up carbs. are you sure the fuel filter is the correct type? i got one from autozone but found rust from the tank was getting past the filter. you float bowl gaskets might also be leaking. when i took mine apart i found the gasket was below the ridge in some places and so i took the gasket out and filed down the ridges a little so the gasket would be above the float bowl surface again. after i did all that shes been running like a champ.

i had that exact same complaint, cleaning the carbs helped at first but the prob was still there untill fixing the gaskets

well i have cleaned and put the carbs back together before and i have done that a few times and am very careful and precise. but i never hear the fuel pump so im worried thats its that, and the fuel filter is stock, the cold weather that just hit is making it worse but, its been going on for a while even before i cleaned the carbs the first time.

Your bike requires more fuel to run at a higher rpm so if your fuel pump was bad it would get worse the more you opened the throttle.I've never heard the fuel pump on mine running either.

I've had an issue similar to yours that I've been tuning out over the last few months and it's been carburetor settings and adjustments that have helped clear it up.

well i just checked the power going to my fuel pump and its getting power, but the pump is not running i unplugged it from the power and rode it and it rides the same exzact way as it has been so now im pretty sure its the fuel pump, also the more gas u give the greater vaccum u have so higher rpm and accelerating probably helps draw the fuel but low rmp probably does not draw as much

Wow,that's interesting,I would have thought that it wouldn't be able to run with the fuel pump disconnected.

Let us know if replacing it corrects the issue.

mine sure as hell wont run when disconnected...its possible when the pump is bypassed but not when its hooked up and unplugged. maybe your relay is bad too. do the test in the service manual to be certain. when i replaced my pump it burnt it up too, so on the 3rd pump i bought a used relay too and havnt had any problems

Where are your float bowl air tubes? The ones that are normally inside the RAM air duct. The symptoms you describe are typical when this device is blocked or not allowed to function as engineered.

You can search the 7r & 9r forum for float bowl tube or mod for more information.

with a clogged float vent the matter gets worse the more gas you give it, he says it gets better with more gas and above 5k

everything that comes off is bagged and tagged sometimes i even get pics of how things were just to be sure. if what i think is right then with my fuel pump unplugged the bike will run like it has been, but i could be completley wrong lol we will see.

im not talking about losing nuts and bolts...i mean writing down results from tuning. more specifically the rpms that are good, ones that are bad, what gears are better than others, what temp was it outside etc....notes

these bikes can run on no fuel for a good mile or so depending how hard you ride. with my fuel tap off i can make it onto the highway before it actually starts stalling out

ok well i removed my emission system plugged what needs to be plugged rerouted what needs rerouted and it seems to run great, also i noticed on emision valve thing on top the valve cover after i removed it i nioticed that the left tube fitting coming out of it didnt have anything hooked to it just on the right side was the tube that went to the top of the carbs . so that couldnt have been good but its running good for now

area specific would be a huge plus. ive never heard a leak squeak before.

id assume youre talking about a whistling vacuum leak? it could be anywhere, grab a can of starting fluid, hold the can about 2ft away from the airbox and do a small spray mist near each carb base...if you can HEAR a vacuum leak its bad and itll suck that starting fluid up fast and the engine rpms are gonna jump
