Sorry if this has been asked about a million times but here goes! Big fan of the ZXR750 and ZX7R, but has anyone here dropped the ZX9R engine into the ZX7R frame? I've been told its pretty easy and I've been thinking about one as a project.Has anyone got any experiance/opinions or info on this?

See some of you are wanting to do the conversion on the zxr750L , ok well i have done it and its easy if you have a good pair of hands , i also see someone has a list that would scare the shite out of you , but all you need is a dremel and a 13mm drill yip thats all.
First mount the zx9B engine in the top rear mounting just put the bolt in no need to tighten it up , now raise the front to see where the oil pipe on the side of the zx9 engine strikes the top mount now mark this and grind away till you raise the engine again bearing in mind the top engine mount on the frame and engine mount wont line up you get them as near as possable and run a 13mm drill through the top mount into the off set engine . EASY
Emmission crap , on top of the rocker cover blank these of wither it be with mr muzzys blank off plates or simply block the rubber pipes off , then junk the emmission crap on the right hand side the thing with all the hoses comeing out , keep the hoses you will need them for the next bit .
Next bit drill a hole in the front lower part of the air box ,so its below the air filter make sure the hole is slightly smaller than the bigger hose off the emmission crap as its this you will be fitting into it and joining up with pipe that comes out of the top of the carbs , now you have done this you have done what kawasaki couldnt and that is equal pressure between the carbs and airbox which allows you to drop back the stupid large jets which makes the throttle response better .
Carbs , ok not a lot of people no this but they restricted some zx9`s throught the carbs , restricted 125bhp unrestricted 135bhp . How do you check this ,well simple push the slides up and they should rise fully up (flush) if they dont and they stick out about 5to 10mm then its restricted , if they are just take the slides out of your zxr750 carbs and place them in note when taking out the restricted 9 slides the big plastic top on them not the carb tops as many think . Also bear in mind this when buying off ebay if you dont have a set of zxr carbs .
CDI what ever you do , do not be tempted to run the 750 cdi use the 9 as you will blow it up , yip i did .
ZX7 is basicaly similar but you will need a new oil feed top mountin bracket again muzzy do them .
All i can say is once its done go out hunting down the so called high performance bikes as this machine when sorted will pass new blades and r1 on twisty roads as it has the best front end and now it has the power that kawasaki should have done in the first place . honestly you wont stop laughing . if any of you get classic motorcycle mechanics the march or april edition look at the owners bikes as mine is in it .
Actually I just found out that pistons & barrels from a zzr will fit and takes it to 980cc.

I've got a 92 zx7r K model with the zx9r motor swap.
I've collected and waited 3 years,.. now doing the 950cc big bore, lighten balanced crank, reprofiled cams, Ti retainers and heavy duty valve springs, flat faced valves, airtech ram air, upgraded suspension all around full racetech upfront, gold valve and springs for my weight. Keihin 39mm FCR's, sudco needles, last but not least, marchesini forged mag 5 spoke rims. 520 chain and sprocket conversion. full set of fiberglass fairings including a custom fiberglass tank.
Will get motor back in approx, 4 weeks. Then dyno'd hopeing for approx. 155-160 Hp
I've used those site and been a member on the red monkey forum for about 7 years now.
Just putting the finishing touches to my engine swap, can't wait to hit the Sussex roads.
One problem I've got is throttle cables. The cables (both 7 and 9) are too short to go through the original route to the carbs. However, if I put them through the hole in the frame on the right hand side the curve from the throttle housing to the hole is too tight and the cables are REALLY stiff with no free movement. Help please ?
Oh, if any of the good 7 riders in the UK have a good spare rad they would be willing to part company with for a reasonable price I'm in the market please. Mine is ...... um.........tired, oh and full of mud from the front wheel.
