oh the excitment!

hello! i just picked up a 91 zx7 about a month ago. she came to me naked and said i will run. so i bought her and made sure she runs. oh and she came with a clean titled 95 frame and carbs and other bits.
im not the type to just slap it together and ride, so i am replacing alot of parts on her. ie. wheel bearings, rebuild forks, new fuel lines, new coolant hoses, new brake lines, tires obviously, new pads and maybe rotors, and eventually some new clothes. ive already decided on sharkskinz. im certain i will have loads of questions, looking forward to participating on this forum!

here is how she came to me...

a tad cleaned up...

more to come...

yes the gs is a great bike. it was my first bike. ive been thrashing it since 2011. (knock on wood) only came off once. ive done alot to that little thing, rebuilt forks myself with stiffer springs and thicker oil, R6 rear shock, k&n filter that eliminates airbox, vance and hines exhaust and jetted to match. of course the obligatory oil, tire, and brake changes as well. all work done by me.

I would look for a cheap, crashed one to scrounge a seal out of. If you can't find anything on Fleabay, there is a website that can help.

Google "Used Motorcycle Parts" and one of the results is a website that links salvage yards across the country. Fill in the blanks with your contact email and the part you're looking for and if any of the yards have any, they'll send you a price.

It may be a pig, but it's a pig with a rocket in it's ass!

yeah i have scrounged ebay already,no luck. problem is, its an old micron bolt on muffler. i came across a few microns on ebay but they all want too much and most were oval not round like mine.
does anyone know of another company that uses a rubber/silicon gasket/seal on their canisters?

seals found. google micron exhaust North America, open website, find toll free#, different company will answer. they used to be microns distributor, they still have items left in inventory but not for much longer. call with your needs before they eliminate the inventory.

i had called before and got their machine and figured it was all over... tried again today just for the heck of it and got a live person. very friendly and helpful.

checking valve clearances today. 45k on the odometer...

just checking, following my repair manual (clymer) i didnt feel right about the position the cam lobes were in when checking cylinder 1 so i rotated the crank to set the lobes like they are on cylinder 2 in this following picture... is this correct?

my measurements, if correct are not good. i havent finished measuring my current shims yet.

just my luck i dropped a shim when returning it after measuring....

Is it normal for the engine to be positioned more to the right side of the bike? it is just barely NOT touching the frame on that side. the previous owner did inform me she was dropped ("gently" according to his account) on her left side. after my initial assessment of damage (very little) i would agree it was a gentle fall. my eyeball micrometer says its approximately 2-3 32nds of an inch at its closest point.
