Rear shock swap on a 97??

Will any other rear shocks fit a 97 ZX7R? Looks possible that a ZX10R will fit?

just curious, but have you tried adjusting your stock shock for more comfort? what exactly is the reason u want a bigger bikes shock?

Hi..new here but am trying to see if I can get an Ohlin or Penske rear shock for my 99. However, I will also see if the new 06 R6 shocks will fit as well. I know the r6 shock has less travel but it looks as though it will fit. Anything is better than the stocker IMO.

Penske shock would be nice but a little too pricey for what I need...I am hoping for a little better functioning and looking later model OEM replacement.

04-05 ZX12R shock. They come up on eBay all the time. Cheap and easy to install. Still OEM, but better valving than the 7R shock.

Got the shock...from an 07 6rr...I think that is what the guy said anyway.
Took the old shock out today and it looks doable.
Here is what I know so far.
The new 6 shock is 1/2 inch shorter but i am thinking this is good as I want to lower the bike a little. Not sure how much a 1/2" shorter shock will lower the rear. If it is too much i could make a new upper mount or alter or add a spacer to the stock one so I initially do not see this as being a deal breaker.
The lower shock clevis/mount is a couple mm narrower on the 6 shock but I think I can have the spacer in the rocker machined to make this work. The flanges on the needle bearing on the rocker are a tight fit so they may need a little messaging also.
I figure it will give me a better functioning and looking shock and might end up lowering the rear without using lowering links.
I should have it on in a week or so and will update.

watch sitting to low in the rear... this will produce a chopper affect with your sport bike... last i checked occ was not a threat on the moto gp circuit!!

wait till you see my 4 up 4 out neck.. Not sure my chopper lingo is 100% correct, but you get my drift.

I figure on lowering the whole bike a proportionate amount...maybe around 15mm or so.

I dropped off the inner bushing for the rocker..the one where the lower shock mounts...at an edm machine shop to have them shave off a couple mm's. I am picking it up tomorrow. So far that looks like the only issue and if I have time I will see if I can get the shock installed this weekend.

My understanding is the zx10r/6rr shock is not the best choice for a zx7 because the zx10/6rr is lighter then the zx7 therefore the spring would have to be replaced.

I have a Brand new 96-03 zx7r shock, never used and is for sale, just thought I'd throw that in.
