93 ZX7 Project Bike!
Hey Everyone, New to ZXForums. I just bought my First bike. And it needs some work but for the price I dont think I went wrong.
Paid 400$ For it. Needs oil Drain tube, Some electrical work, Coolant lines. Speedo cable and rear turn signals.
Got a Racing Jacket, New Polished rear rim, Clymer Manual, and a Dynojet kit with it.
The good!

The Bad
Bout to tear the carbs apart and clean em, Do a lull lookover of the electrical system, Dont hear the Fuel pump kicking on.
Whats the best site for cheap parts other than eBay?

Definitly a good deal. Might seem like money pit right now but when it's done you'll be glad you got it.
P.S. I hope you bought a heat shield to cover the wires back up if not your ganna have issues.

Heat Shield?
Could you refer me to a place that has it?
What specifically are you talking about?

duuuude, those parts really turned around. wish i was good enough at body work to paint black...im keeping kawi green on mine, but my project is pretty close to yours, im stuck needing random brackets and some things here and there.
my tail section and tank are in primer and wetsanded. any tips on prepping a fiberglass race kit, also the cleanest way to cut out headlight holes in the fiberglass?
real big turnaround on the bike so far, keep us updated. (btw i like the way you held the tank onto the saw horse, im gonna bungie mine like that)

On fiberglass im not all too sure on prepping, I would Sand, Primer and paint it.
Cutting out headlight holes, I would have to say a Dremel with a Diamond Cut off disc.
I did the same with the frame and Bungeed it to the saw horse. The swing arm I stood vertically then flipped and repeated.
It was a real pain at first, And this is the first time I have ever painted something similar. I did not use a rattlecan, Used a Gravity fed sprayer and a 35 Gallon 190 PSI Compressor regulated down to 70-90 PSI.
Mixed the Nason Paint At a 4:1 Ratio, 4 Parts Paint, 1 Part Thinner.
Overall the full painting of the frame and all plastics that i have shown took 3 days including dropping of the motor and the like. Basically rebuilt the bike in 10 days.
I still need to fix some of the Side plastics, Some cracks in em.
Sand and paint it all. Also need to hit a junk yard and Strip some headlight harnesses. This bike only has one Bulb connector, Previous owner planned on turning it into a street fighter.
List of parts needed so far.
Speedometer cable
Headlight bulbs/wiring assy
Tires*
rear brake pads.
Front brake lever, Last inch or so of it was busted off.
Upper cam chain guide is on order and will be here Wednesday.
I need to flush the Front brake system and replace the fluids.

yup, did the same on mine, it wasnt in as bad of shape.. that coolant hose is hilarious..and that tank turnaround is incredible(but the carbs from your youtube looked pretty close to mine) i think with my glass kit, im gonna use fiber filler for strength, then glaze putty to finish it out...ofcourse im gonna use a hplv and wait for the right day to paint, since i dont have a booth. (did my car the same way, obviously wasnt perfect the first shot, but after wetsanding and a buff, brand new car again) im working on the underbelly and front fairing now (plenty of repairs to work on the way) really body work is the only thing holding me back, i hate prep work-i just wanna shoot it already!
btw-anyone thinking about painting front facia or bellypan, dont even bother trying to hand sand the color down...i wasted an hr before i finally broke down and paid the 20 bux for stipper in a can (giggity) well worth the money
for your basic maint parts, check on ebay-just check up on it about 1nce or twice a week, youll find a good deal...usually 20-30bux less than the dealer on oem parts, maybe cheaper for your model.

Yeah. Right now im doing a side project, For the bike of course, Im about to dig up some old relays and attempt to make a turn signal integrator for the tail lights WOOT!

shouldnt be hard, send me your version-im wanting to do the same. they sell a kit to convert but for 30-40 bucks for stuff i can buy for 5-10...not a great deal. i could probly pull it off, but i dont want the stop lights to interfere with signaling.

So far what I am thinking is a Closed Relay. Leaves the Brake Light connected when the turn signals are not powering the coil, Then when the coil is powered by the TS Flasher, And since the coils should have enough resistance, The Relay should operate at around 70 Flashes Per Second

Hopefully your home-made light turns out nice. My LED integrated tail light is making my head spin right now. I did have it semi working...but now its not working at all...and my battery is dead. Everything worked cept my turns, which also worked correctly...BUT the opposite side than what was turned on would have some major "bleed through" of electricity and turn on bright red at the same time as the blinker flash of yellow on the other side...if that makes any sense.
I fixed it for a moment with some different resistors I was testing, and got to the point of having all functions normal except everything was displaying in red instead of the turns being amber color, which I could deal with....but this is where it gets fun. I took apart the test setup and spent a good hour properly splicing and soldering everything together permanently, and now nothing works. wah-la. Gotta love magic tricks like that. So now the Edges of my LED light light up, but nothing else, and to make things worse my batterys dead...so I dont know if my issue is that there just isnt enough current/voltage (9ish presently) due to the low battery after a night of fooling with these lights, or if I actually just fried my $100 LED board And I will have no clue as to what just happened untill tomorow when I toss on a charger and start her up. So in conclusion, don't bother with an LED board on our bikes, there worthless.

Villian I was having the exact same issue with my intergrated tail. Try wiring another set of signals into the rear wires, they act as the right size resistor to make it function correctly. And swap the way you have your wires hooked up to fix the wrong side signaling. Sorry to thread jack. Cant wait to see an update bike is looking sick!!
