Air Box/emissions

I am going through 97 zx7r that I just bought. On the front of the airbox their are two hoses. The larger one splits and goes to the carbs. The one on the "drivers side" is not hooked to anything. I think there was some kind of emissions valve or something.
My question is...i assume I am OK with not running that valve? Should I just block off that inlet into the airbox? Is there anything else that needs blocked off? Wherever the other end of the hose went.

i have a 1995 ninja zx-7 and i think the airboxes are pretty similar. But the hose that you said wasnt hooked to anything, i do believe it should go to the top of the cylinder head cover. on mine there is a three way splitter and there are two hoses coming from opposite sides on the cylinder head cover and then there is a spot to hook in the hose coming from the airbox. The hose you are talking about should have a funny looking shape to it. hope this helps

one of them does go to the area of the carbs and splits 3 or 4 ways...that sounds like the one you are talking about...but

the other one is attached to nothing....I saw a diagram somewhere and I think there was a valve of some sorts.

This is very helpful. I recently ripped out all the emission control parts and am having trouble getting the bike to run again. I blocked off the float bowl hoses so I'll go in and try this mod instead, since that is probably my main problem right now. My question regarding the photos in the link rhd posted is this: That air going to the float bowls must be coming through the filter first, right? You don't want dirty air going to your float bowls. However, the front of the airbox only has outlets on the bottom piece, which is continuous with dirty air from the rams. Are you guys running that to your float bowls?

Ok, I was wrong. The two outlets on the airbox are indeed on the top cover, not the bottom housing. Therefore, that is filtered, clean air you are connecting back to the carbs, as it should be. Sorry my memory was so poor on that.

I was able to put together something for this connection using emissions control parts stripped off earlier. I'm putting things back together now and wonder if it will run better.

By the way, those little rubber caps for the hydralic brake and clutch bleeder valves work perfectly for capping off the vacuum ports on the intake manifold under the carbs. Photos coming in a day or so.
