You can get the OEM filters at ronayers.com or bikebandit.com. I just replaced mine on my 97 w/ the OEM filter. You could probably use any inline filter, but things are routed pretty tight under the tank. The OEM is shaped for the space and is less headaches.

Go here: http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...s-1997/o/m4215

Look for part #49019.

It sits just behind the frame crossmember that is below the fuel petcock on the fuel tank. Follow the fuel line from the petcock out--it runs right to the fuel filter after making a couple of bends around other parts. You can't see it well unless you remove the front seat and lift the tank up a couple of inches.

incase anyone here is a tuner or has a bike in progress-and wants the tank to be easily moved, while your replacing the filter you can get a long fuel line...so when you need to do any other maint later, you just pull the tank and turn it around on the seats, easy and scratch free. plus if your a 1 man show you wont require an extra hand to disconnect the line or hold the tank.

just my 2cents
